There are costs to the events found in each of his narratives, whether it be the dissolution of personhood by submitting to evil, or its glorification through grace. The current volume has been compiled and arranged with the desire to present an expansive survey on the work of Arthur Machen without resorting to the over-anthologized texts found so easily in other collections. This goal of gathering "fresh" material while remaining representative of the writer's long career has hopefully succeeded in illustrating a brilliant arc of depth and wonder. The selected pieces, initially published between 1889 and 1943, have been divided into four categories: Fiction, Essays & Articles, Christian Apologetics and selections from Machen's Memoirs.
