Review Quotes

"This book, beautifully written with both passion and courage, invites the reader on a journey of transformation. Beginning with concrete examples of water pollution and rights to clean water, this book is a wake-up call to see how collective and individual decisions oppress vulnerable communities. Sometimes climate issues seem remote and outside our control. The author, by showing how economic, climate, gender and racist injustice intersect, highlights the realities of the root causes of the deep and accelerating eco-social problems of the world. The reader is invited to re-think religious faith by moving away from static conceptions of God, to one who accompanies us as a living, moving verb. Sin, in this way, becomes horizontal and about our relationship with other creatures and people, and not just vertical. The author gives numerous examples of how behavioural change nurtures hope through concrete practices such as peacemaking. Written with flair and in an accessible style and including helpful discussion questions at the end of every chapter, this book is essential reading for anyone who might wonder how to begin to address climate change and the ecosocial problems of our day." -Celia Deane-Drummond, director, Laudato Si' Research Institute, Campion Hall, University of Oxford

"Through Earthbound: God at the Intersection of Climate and Justice, Grace Ji-Sun Kim invites us into deeper understandings of the connections between all life, both human and non-human, in this shared world. This is not a self-absorbed diversion, but rather an insightful summons to respond to the theological crisis that fostered global environmental violence, with the hope for the healing transformation of all the earth's creatures." -Edwin David Aponte, professor of religion & culture, dean of the Theological School, Drew University

"Dr. Kim's breadth of work is a profound exploration, aligning climate justice with Christian conviction. This book is a vital resource for those seeking to develop spiritual values intertwined with the urgent work of environmental stewardship." -Tiffany Bluhm, author of The Women We've Been Waiting For and Prey Tell

"Grace Ji-Sun Kim is a life-long advocate of Christian Ecofeminism, a theological intersection between the female and earth bodies. In Earthbound, she enlarges that intersection to include all the embodied creatures who are impacted by climate change, as well as the expanded horizon of eco-justice that is required to address this new global emergency. At the theological intersection of God and Climate, she invites us to outgrow the imperial God of earth-domination in favour of the Spirit who energizes and sustains everything in creation. This is a bold, visionary work, addressing urgent ecological and theological issues of our time!" -Diarmuid O'Murchu, author, Ecological Spirituality and In the Beginning was the Spirit
