Since my five year old started kindergarten, we have been looking for ways to make practicing spelling more fun and less stressful. This mat makes it easy. The bright colors and simple design catch my child's attention right away. We use it to practice identifying letters, sounding out words, and even making up silly word games. I love how it encourages hands on learning and gives us a fun way to spend time together while building important skills. I would absolutely recommend this to other parents with early readers! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a picky child and a non picky one. Non wasn't a fan. The picky was until he used all the letters to fill the alphabet, then there was only a few extra letters that couldn't really spell anything else. Also the magnets on the bigger pieces that stuff down the alphabet only worked really the first time then the middle wouldn't go back down.

It is great for the 6 year old for practicing her spelling words for the week and great for the 4 year old to start to learn all about letters and sounds and how they can go together to make words.

I'd say it's more useful for kids 5 and up because the younger ones can't really spell well yet. I love how it is very easy to maneuver the magnetic letters around the board, as well as the additional letter boards you are provided with. The only thing that I did not like is that the three additional letter boards have to be flatten out before using them, so that they fit flat on the board.
