It is completely out of focus and no way to bring it into focus. The "instructions" say 5.5 feet is ideal. I measured 5.5 feet out on the floor and nothing was in focus. There are a bigger set of instructions on how to install the batteries than on the scope itself.

Bought as a gift for my son because he loves the solar system, especially Neptune. Tried it out Christmas morning but the images were blurry with no way to focus them. Also the package mentions "all 8 planets" but Neptune is no where to be found. Returning this ASAP.

Great product for learning about the Constellations

We bought the GeoSafari Constellation and Solar System Explorer and our daughter is loving it! She has always been interested in the stars and constellations and now she can view and study them anytime she wants - even when it's cloudy outside! It shows the constellations in 3 different forms and comes with a small book. The book is great for teaching facts on the constellations. It's also great for little as well as older kids. If you have a little astronomer, I highly recommend this item!

This product is an amazing way to show children the solar system and stars! I was surprised by how clear and detailed the images were. We counted the stars in the constellations and talked about the features of each planet. The Night Sky Stories book was the cherry on top. We loved all the fun facts and information on each planet and constellation.

If you're into outer space!

This is a pretty neat item, my kids liked using it in their rooms, particularly enjoyed viewing the moon and planets. If the recipient is into outer space, the planets, constellations, etc. this would be a great choice. If they aren't it's cool to use as a nightlight, but children would really get the most out of it if they had an celestial interest.

6 year old was disappointed, until I turned it on

When I took it out of the box, my daughter's face fell. She was very disappointed that it wasn't a "real" telescope. I encouraged her to try it. She is glad she did. She looked through all the constellations, asking questions along the way. She then wanted a book that talked about them. After adding the book to her reader, she has fallen asleep with a different constellation projected on her ceiling as her "night light". Then next morning, she tells me all about it over breakfast. We were pleasantly surprised.

Loved this. My kids were so excited to get it when it arrived. They were able to take it out of the box and figure out how to use it. They only thing they needed help with was putting the batteries in it. I do wish there was a way to change out the images so we can continue learning beyond what is already given.

My girls (4 and 6) have LOVED playing with their "telescope." They are learning to identify each planet and are fascinated by "drawing pictures with stars" as we've scrolled through the constellations. My only concern is how difficult it is to find just the right projection distance so the images are in focus. Other than that, it's easy to use and we've had lots of fun so far!

My 2.5 year old son loves the sun, the moon, and the stars so I thought this may be a great educational and fun thing for us to "play" with together. He LOVES it! He has even started to recognize certain planets!

We are really enjoying exploring the constellations and solar system with the GeoSafari Constellation and Solar System Explorer. It projects 12 zodiac constellations, sun, moon. 8 planets and the Big and Little Dipper. Constellations are presented in celestial, connected and illustrated mode. It comes with a fantastic 28 page book with the mythology stories for each planet and constellation. The Explorer has a built in red light for reading. I love this STEM learning tool and so do both the boys! It introduces children to basic astronomy and classical mythology. Really easy for them to use too. They just turn a dial to change pictures. We have projected on the walls, doors and ceiling. They really love standing in front of the projector so it turns them into a planet or stars! This has added a lot of fun and new knowledge to our homeschool adventures. It does say for ages 8 and up. However you can easily adapt for younger children. My boys are 3 and almost 5 they had no problem working it. As a mom and a teacher since 1999, I look for engaging learning toys for homeschooling. This definitely is one. There are so many fun activities this can be used with. I really like that as my boys grow they can use this learning tool differently. I highly recommended the GeoSafari Constellation and Solar System Explorer!

A planetarium for your child's room

This is a really cool toy to teach kids about the planets and the constellations. It comes with a really interesting guide book that has interesting facts and stories about each constellation and planet. It shows what the constellations look like in the sky, how they connect to form a picture, and a picture of what the constellation forms so you can teach kids what to look for when stargazing. The images of the planets are also really detailed and gives an up close look at what the planets look like. Overall, a great toy that you can use to teach and even quiz kids.

Broke after one use

This is a fairly simple product. The device projects a simple image of a constellation onto the wall. You turn a wheel and it rotates through the images. It reminded me of those viewfinder devices we had when we were kids, but projected on the wall instead of seen through a viewfinder. The device doesn't do very much, but if you're learning about constellations in a home or small group setting, this could be an easy way to show the constellation while discussing it. It includes a book with a short story about each constellation as well. Unfortunately it broke as my son was spinning through the images, the first time we were using it. The spin knob became disconnected from the image thing, so it is stuck on just one image. It gets one star for flimsy construction. If it had worked, I'd probably give it three stars, because it's a fairly simple product.
