Using over 200 plastic pieces and piston tubes that you fill with water, build an awesome mechanical hand that uses hydraulic power to simulate the movements of the human hand--no motors or electricity required! Once assembled, your cyborg hand slips onto your own hand like a glove, with mechanical fingers that you operate with your own fingers and that can grip objects with enough force to lift them. Challenge yourself to pick up and hold a variety of items like bottles, pencils, small items--anything within reach! The hand can be configured in three ways--left hand, right hand, and claw-like, with the thumb in the center--and can be adjusted to fit virtually all hand sizes. A 40-page, full-color manual guides model building and experimentation and provides engaging scientific information about how pneumatic and hydraulic systems are used in industrial robots to assist with a variety of tasks in our modern world.

A: Thank you for your question! There are directions in the back of the instruction manual that allow you to switch the side the thumb is on, to make your Mega Cyborg Hand either left or right handed.

A: Thanks for asking! Batteries are not required for the Mega Cyborg Hand STEM Kit. The robotic hand utilizes a hydraulic (water-powered) and pneumatic (air-powered) system to move the fingers and pick up objects.

DO NOT BUY
You have to unassemble the whole factory kit first before you start building. It has small intricate pieces, and it takes 90+ minutes. Messes up your hands, and if you accidentally break one piece while pushing it out, the whole thing is ruined. Unscrupulous way of cutting cost on a kids toy. Junk. And it has tiny screws to hold it together. Why?

Hydraulic cylinders wint snap to proper angle
The most complicated part of this toy is the hydraulics and when trying to out each together, it's near impossible to twist it into place into the receiving end to where it settles in at the correct angle. And all 4 of the cylinders had protrusions which looked like burrs so I cut them off and now it appears they were needed to secure the whole thing. What a complicated difficult mess after many many hours.

This was such a hit with my 10 year old. He put it together all by himself, minus some of the hydraulics he needed help with. Kept him entertained for hours. As far as the overall functionality of the hand itself, it wasn't great. Possibly he didn't do something correct, but the range of motion wasn't great and wasn't that smooth. Once again this may be due to being assembled by a 10 year old and he was happy with it so all is well. Overall I recommend

Scratch/Poke Risk and Complicated
Was looking forward to a fun activity but almost every single piece of this kit requires being popped out of a plastic form. I have arthritic hands and sensation issues in my fingers. It was painful to pop these out, especially when the spokes keeping the pieces in form would scratch or poke with every pop. My sons have smaller hands but the pokes and scratches hurt them too. Some of that spoke stays attached, so I will also have all that down as well. Really disappointed and not even sure it will get finished now. May return.

Fantastic customer service!
My son received this as a Christmas gift. It was not easy to put together, but it was so cool to see it take shape. When it was complete, he was ecstatic, but unfortunately he was too rough with it and one of the most crucial pieces broke. After emailing the company about how to buy a replacement piece, they sent me two in the mail free of charge (didn’t even ask me to pay for shipping!). I am VERY impressed and pleased with their customer service, and the product is very cool to play with once it’s assembled.

Defective part
Of of the pieces so far was defective so we couldnt finish building it and I reached customer service on the phone on which I was told to fill put a replacement part form online and I am still waiting to hear from them
