Description

Explore hydraulics, pneumatics, and robotics with your very own GIANT hydraulic hand! Using over 200 plastic pieces and piston tubes that you fill with water, build an awesome mechanical hand that uses hydraulic power to simulate the movements of the human hand--no motors or electricity required! Once assembled, your cyborg hand slips onto your own hand like a glove, with mechanical fingers that you operate with your own fingers and that can grip objects with enough force to lift them. Challenge yourself to pick up and hold a variety of items like bottles, pencils, small items--anything within reach! The hand can be configured in three ways--left hand, right hand, and claw-like, with the thumb in the center--and can be adjusted to fit virtually all hand sizes. A 40-page, full-color manual guides model building and experimentation and provides engaging scientific information about how pneumatic and hydraulic systems are used in industrial robots to assist with a variety of tasks in our modern world.

The packing of this is a bit cumbersome, and my child (7) found the photos in the directions to be a bit confusing in comparison to something like lego building. We have not finished building yet, but it is an easy and fun project for child or parent/child time.

it didnt last. My 12 year old put it together and it took forever. once together it would come apart anytime he'd go to move the fingers.

It's rare to come across a product that has both the cool factor and is educational, and this product excels in both categories. My 11 years old nephew likes it very much, and I'm sure he learned a ton of mechanical engineering concepts while building it.

Very interesting and fun. My 8 yrs old daughter built 98% of it by herself. It’s bigger than I thought, can grab a lot of things after a little bit of practice. A good gift for handy kids.

Use the nail filer!

I really enjoyed this kit. I felt the directions were straightforward. I would recommend using the nail filer to get the plastic edges off and not using scissors to cut the pieces off. It recommends using a different tool and I can see it would have made things a lot easier had I followed that part of the instructions. When attaching the thumb I had a little difficulty following the instructions because they were not as clear as I would have liked but I figured it out.

My husband worked for hours to carefully prep this to put together with the children. Then one of the pieces snapped off in one of the other pieces and now it's ruined.

My son did most of the work himself and he is 7 but I did need to help him with the pistons after he built the fingers. After that my husband helped with a few screws. I thought about removing a star because you do need lots of patience to remove the burrs from the plastic. I used a cuticle clipper and it helped get through it. That’s one bit of advice and make sure you are available to help and hood at reading directions. Overall, super cool toy but a little tricky and it requires A-LOT of patience!

My husband is a mr fixit. does everything around the house. It's taken him multiple hours, on several different days to put this together. Its still not done. my son got this for Christmas and it's still not ready for him. Needs to come pre-built, or at least a lot further along if it's going to require so much. Such a waste of time and my son is so sad he still can't play with it.

Started Out Amazing...

aspirit - 1 year ago, Verified purchaser
Could have been spectacular, but a piece already attached broke halfway through the hand's completion. Attempts to fix the snapped plastic failed. We couldn't reach the company in any of our repeated attempts. Throwing out the set feels like a waste.

Amazing customer service

My son was so excited to receive this for Christmas. Unfortunately the dog was also excited. He stole one of the parts and chewed it up. I contacted the company and they offered to send him a replacement part free of charge. They even paid to ship it. Amazing! This toy is definitely a project to put together, but my 9 year old is able to do it with only some occassional help.

Great kit for future engineers

My 9 year old daughter is a steam girl and telly enjoyed this and completed about 80-90% herself. It was way more complex than I thought it would be and is definitely not easy, but she loved the challenge. It took her 4-5 hours to complete. Build hint- try several screwdrivers till you find one that works well. we had a tiny one and larger one, both were super frustrating- once I found a mid size driver it was easy to construct by hand.

Requires a lot of patience, not sure many ten year olds could get through it. Thumb doesn't work great, needs to extend more to grasp big items.
