My 6-year-old enjoyed it, but it was much too difficult for my 3-year-old. (I realize what age recommendation it lists). The disappointing thing was that I pounded it to dust for them and it's missing one gem. Very disappointing.

Fun activity for kids, unfortunately not for gem enthusiasts. The turquoise in our kit was cracked and differently colored inside. None of the others broke, but I can't tell if they're real or not, and that would make someone who really knew their stuff really upset.
Okay to keep a L.O. Busy but tiny rocks

Pretty cool concept, but it was difficult to carve. My nephew is within the recommended age group and he struggled. Although it was long to get to all the gems, he had fu. I had to help him carve out some gems that were really stuck.

This was easy to use and engaging. Our 9-yr-old finished finding all the gems in 15 minutes. There were two large chunks of rock left over, and she was bummed to be through so quickly. Still fun!

We really enjoyed this activity! My almost 7 year old bought this with her allowance. She loves collecting rocks and thought this would be really fun. I was worried because some reviews said they didn’t get any gems so I tried to prepare her for that. Most gems were in the center of the brick so once we got there, we found most in rapid succession. Great value, about 1.5 hours total of digging! It wasn’t too messy, we used an old cookie sheet.
Great toy to keep kids busy!

My 5yr old and 3yr old had soooo much fun with this! I made them use it outside though because it was pretty messy. No complaints about the mess though because that’s to be expected with digging lol

My 8YO worked on this over the course of 2 days, probably spending about 45 minutes per 'session' for a total of an hour and a half. It's super messy, but wasn't hard to clean up once finished. We were missing 1 gem, which was pretty frustrating. Some of them were small so we thought the final gem was hiding in one of the remaining chunks. However, we pounded everything to dust and still didn't find the last one. This was quite tedious and kind of overshadowed the initial fun for my son. I thought 10/11 is still a good value and it was a fun activity. My son is very literal and likes to complete things, so he felt short-changed. This is why I'm giving it 3 stars. He'd probably rate it a 1, I'd probably rate it a 4 or 5, so taking the average.

I gave it one star because 0 was not an option!!!! There were absolutely no gems. We dug for an hour and got nothing! SO DISAPPOINTED. My child was so upset. Just a messy pile of dust. We even rinsed most of the big clumps just to see if we missed something. There were no gems.

My kiddos love doing these kind of things, typically. My middle kiddo got this for Christmas. He excitedly started pounding away at it and I began to help. I broke it in half. gave him the bigger half. as we are going I'm not seeing any bit of gemstone. I break my entire small half into pieces. absolutely nothing....I thought that was odd as it was advertised to have 11 gemstones in there. I soaked some of the bigger pieces in water and began working more. We busted up the entire block to find zero gemstones. I got a great chuckle out of it and the kiddo got safety glasses🤣 We've bought many of these kits and have never had this happen! I'd still recommend as I'm sure it was a rare fluke 🙃

So much fun and has thus far, lasted an hour and a half. My kiddos can accurately identify each stone. Lots of fun. I wish the stones were slightly larger, but the chiseling was fun and age appropriate
My 6 yr old loved this kit!

Our daughter loves finding pretty stones in the ground, so this was a lovely Christmas present for her. Occupied her for about 1 1/2 hours, chipping away. A tip if your child is getting frustrated: submerge the brick in water for a little bit and that will make it easy for the clay to come apart when chipped at with the chisel. We didn't need to do that, but after finding the 11 stones, we submerged it to break up the rest of the brick and make sure there weren't any bonus ones!
