Description

GeoSafari Jr. My First Microscope allows preschoolers to see magnified hidden worlds with ease! This fully functional microscope is the perfect introduction to a real science tool and STEM learning. My First Microscope has a range of magnification (2.5x–8x) designed for toddlers and preschoolers. Magnified views can be challenging for little ones to understand, so by starting with the 2.5x view (with the focusing knob turned as far away from your child as it will go), your preschooler can orient herself to the item she’s viewing, and as she turns the focusing knob towards herself, she can gradually pull away to an 8x view. The wide field of view of these lower magnifications is critical to little ones’ understanding. My First Microscope also features two extra-large eyepieces (no need to close one eye!) and a chunky, kid-sized focusing knob. A bright LED with easy push-button action lights up details for even more discoveries. Requires 3 AAA batteries (not included).

First one was broken in half upon arrival. Replacement also arrived cracked, so I’ve requested a refund. It’s really light weight and poor quality. As others have said, it’s basically a magnifying glass. I’m sure it would be fun for a 3 year old, but I can’t imagine it would last very long considering the 2 I received arrived broken. Not worth the $20.

My 3 year old loves this microscope! It works very well and the knob is easy for him to maneuver. He loves to "study" leaves and flowers he finds so this was an awesome addition to letting him explore his nature items more in depth. I was impressed by how well it works for the price too!

It is a lot lighter (weight) than I thought it would be. I haven’t opened the box so I can’t really say anything else about it. Packaging is bright and attractive though.

Scratches in lenses

This is a great toy for curious toddlers 2-5 years of age to explore about science. My child likes it but didn't played it for very long. When I received it, I've noticed there were scratches on the lenses and a bit on the side of the toy. When adjusting the zoom in and out, it's mostly blurry than clear. This will do for now for him so he can explore around.

Great product; not sure about magnification

My son loves the idea of this microscope and is always keen to have a look through it but he gets bored quite quickly because, and this may just be a problem with my particular example, the magnification is rather disappointing. In no circumstances is it anything approaching 8x. It seems more like 1.5x - that is, something that is about an inch across will appear under the microscope to be about 1.5 inches. I don't think there's anything I've missed operationally to increase the magnification; it's just rather underwhelming. But the absence of any similar comments here leads me to believe that it's a problem with my item. I would recommend it to a friend, with this caveat.

A Christmas gift for my 4 year old grandson. He loves to play scientist and couldn't wait to pluck a leaf and a flower to examine. We live in FL so that wasn't a problem. You will need a screwdriver and batteries to get the light to work.

Very cute little microscope for curious kids but definitely not for anyone older than 4/5. I returned one of them that I bought to find a more age-appropriate set for a 6.5 year old.

Our 4 1/2 year old great-granddaughter, immediately upon removing it from the box, intuitively took to the instrument, perhaps, because she is emulating her 16 year aunt who refuses to share her adult level microscope with her. So,now the two work side-by-side exploring the micro-world.

Science is fun!

We received this in exchange for my honest review. I was excited to get my 4 year old daughter started in the science field. Kids are naturally curious and love to learn. The microscope is easy to use and I am comfortable letting her walk around with it. It's solid plastic. It's brightly colored with all the basic parts of a regular microscope - lens, light, knob, etc. Children look through with both eyes and that's very helpful for little ones. The stage is big enough to place objects on it. I was struggling a little with what to have her look at. I was overthinking it. We tried a leaf and a few toys within reach. After she understood what to do she choose other objects to look at. I'm always happy to see when she randomly goes to her microscope to look at something. This is a fun first microscope and would make a cute gift for a boy or girl.

My 3.5 yr old daughter loved this out of the box! She started putting her little pet shop animals on it and used it as a house. Lo and behold, I showed her we could do so much more with it! We started to view her little pet shop toys under the microscope and she thought it was very neat. Little scientific tools like these for toddlers are precious, in my opinion. It's a great way to encourage their inquisitive minds to go exploring. My 7 year old niece liked to play with it as well and if anything liked it even more than my daughter. We found a dead boxelder bug in the house and placed it in the microscope and they were fascinated looking at it under the microscope. Rating: 4.5 stars Pros: Simple to use, educational, reasonably sturdy construction, good toy to use with other toys Cons: Magnification could be better

We are really enjoying his microscope. I love watching my son take his toy cars and examine them under the microscope. The microscope encourages exploration and discovery. When he finds something interesting, he will call mom or dad to also take a look. I enjoy the interaction the microscope toy allows for us to have as a family as well as allowing mom and dad to encourage more discovery. I hope it also grows him in focused time to sit still and he studies his toys under the microscope.

A great purchase to inspire budding young scientists!

A few years ago, I bought a different brand of "child" microscope, and it turned out to be WAY too complex--both in terms of assembly and use. Not the case with this product. Assembly is literally as simple as inserting batteries, and my three-year-old was INDEPENDENTLY having a blast in no time. She's examined leaves, coins--even Barbie shoes! Plus, my six year old didn't consider it too babyish to try out, which is a definite plus when you're hoping to get the best use out of a toy and/or educational product in a large family. All in all, this is a great way to get kids interested in science from an early age!

Great for little kids who like to examine and explore!

We received this product free for review, and my 4-year-old son (who is a HUGE "Sid The Science Kid" fan) loved it right out of the box. In fact, he even took it to bed with him the first night. As a mom, I like how easy it is for him to use on his own and how durable it is (no worries about him breaking it for sure). I also like that it has a light to help him see the items better. The only constructive criticism I might have for the manufacturer is that the microscope is literally the only thing in the box. I understand they want kids to explore and come up with things to put under the microscope on their own, but it might be nice if there were some starter "slides" or objects included in the package to get them going, perhaps even with some questions they might ask themselves about each item to get their minds working/thinking/observing.

Good introductory microscope

I like that it is lightweight so it's easy to carry around. We will start bringing it with us to the park so she can look for bugs, grass, sticks, etc. I also like that no batteries are required - only if you want to use the light. I think overall this is a good toy for a young toddler to get introduced to science.

Sturdy and Toddler-friendly

We received this toy in exchange for our opinion and review, but I would have purchased it regardless. My two year old daughter has already been all around the living room finding decorative sticks and acorns to "check out" under the microscope, and has plans to bring it to the backyard after her nap. I wasn't sure that she would understand how to look through the two lenses, but it was very intuitive and she picked it up almost immediately. The orange knobs that control the distance of the microscope from the object are very toddler-friendly, as she can continue to turn the knob past it's stopping point and it just clicks (which she thinks is fun), without showing any sign of breaking. This toy is very well-designed and will continue to be fun as she gets older.
