Fun & interactive way for kids to work on kindergarten math

Hot dots is a fun and interactive way for kids to learn and have fun at the same time! I have been looking for some ways to prepare my 5 year old for kindergarten in the fall but I didn't want to make her do worksheets so hot dots is the perfect way for her to continue to learn at home in a fun way. The Ace pen is adorable and provides instant feedback letting her know if she answered correctly or not. I love that 2 books are included in the set and it covers a lot of different early math skills so she will be very prepared and ready for kindergarten. We will definitely be buying more of the hot dots sets. Highly recommend!

Wonderful product! I was disappointed that the skills in the Kindergarten math books were very basic. My 5 1/2 year old daughter only found the money and telling time to be a little challenging.
"The Puppy Game" a big hit

I was initially disappointed in the topic coverage the product supplies--there is no counting above 10, and in kindergarten (half-day in a public school, not a Montessori program or other advanced learning center, by any means), my daughter is already expected to be able to recognize and count up to 99. The first book, then, while it took her some time to master because she couldn't read the directions and wanted to do it on her own, was almost more like pre-k. That said, once I moved her on to Book 2, the focus number-wise is more on basic addition and subtraction, but the majority of the second book is on other concepts her class is learning, patterns, shape recognition, and sequences, plus coin-counting and time-telling that they have not addressed yet but with which she is faintly familiar with from an online learning game we use as well. I do feel like it has given her an extra bit of help really understanding the concepts being presented in class. The only downside is that (at least with the first book) I am pretty sure she just memorized what responses gave her positive feedback rather than actually thinking through the problems... but she also played with the book so much before I let her move on (keen to her random pressing with the doggy 'pen', just as she random-clicks on web games) that she did actually absorb the lessons to a greater degree than I had expected. It is a very basic unit... there's a code or something embedded in the page marking the correct answers, and when the child clicks the right answer, the dog's eyes flash green and he cheers in one way or another. Click anywhere else--the wrong answer, the table, your hand--and he whimpers, whines, and flashes red. The one thing I would have improved would be if it could read the instructions on a page aloud to the child, but that would require something more advanced. She just needed me to explain directions a few times is all. There is, however, VOLUME CONTROL, which I was oh so very grateful for when she was clicking all over the place. LOL All in all, we're happy with the product. I received it at no cost to myself in exchange for a review and I chose the math game because she was struggling with math at the time. She's now better at math than at reading and I'm wishing I had the reading game to give her next, if that tells you how much we like it. :-) Too bad there's not one to teach listening and following directions! Every kindergarten parent on the planet would be after that one.

Hot Dots Jr. Math has been fabulous for my Kindergartners. They use it independently with very little help from me. They like that it tells them if they are correct or incorrect. The skills are tied to our Learning Objectives and are age-appropriate. I have two children work on the Hot Dots Jr. together during centers time. It really is a "Top Choice" in my classroom.

Although my child is still a little too young for the entire book he does like doing the numbers, counting, and shapes sections. This will be a great book to help him continue to learn and grown as he prepares for Kindergarten. This book has the skills that he will be learning and it will be nice to be able to help him at home without him feeling like he has to do homework. I want him to enjoy learning and this is a great way to do it. Also, Ace the talking dog pen is a wonderful,, encouraging device to help my child when he chooses and answer. It also allows him to be able to learn on his own and know if he has picked the correct answer.

This is the best way ever to make Math fun! I love the Hot Dots jr Collection and so does my son. He is a HUGE fan of this Hot Dots Jr. Let's Master Kindergarten Math set. The set has 2 great, interactive sturdy spiral-bound books and "Ace"-the Talking, Teaching DogTM Hot Dots pen. The are bright and colorful and so easy to use. The set has around 100 lessons so it keeps my son engaged all the time! It works very simple, there are black dots next to each question and my son then picks an answer and put his fun pen on the black dot. If the question is correct the pen will turn green and talk and give him positive reinforcement. If he gets the answer wrong it will turn red and tell him to try again! He gets very excited when he gets the answer correct! This set focuses on learning numbers, patterns, time, shapes, fractions, measurement, money, and math facts. The set is very durable and I think it will last a very long time or until he out grows it!

I received this Hot Dots product from Educational Insights to conduct a review. All opinions of this product are my own. My five year old daughter is in kindergarten and absolutely loves math. With this wonderful set from Hot Dots Jr.iis a great way to allow kids to have fun while doing math. The books included in this set help to teach 85 different Kindergarten level math skills. I love that the skills are different throughout the book so my daughter will not get sick of it after the first few days. I love that she will continue to enjoy math through completing the different activities and that it will continue to build her math skills even if I am not working with her.
Great Supplement for Kindergarten Math

I received Hot Dots Jr. Let's Master Kindergarten Math free for review. All opinions are my own. Hot Dots Jr. Let's Master Kindergarten Math includes Ace the Talking Teaching Dog Hot Dots Pen and two Hot Dots workbooks. The workbooks include questions, and multiple choice answers with a black dot next to each possible response. Your child will use the Hot Dots pen to select an answer by vertically pressing down on one of the dots. If the answer is correct a positive reinforcement will be heard and the pen will light up green. If the answer is wrong, a try again message will sound and the pen will light up red. The Kindergarten Math books cover topics such as counting, patterns, time, shapes, measurements, basic math facts and money. My 6 year old worked through the first book with no problems. The second book was great because it gave her a good review of some of the easier addition and subtraction problems. I love this because she's starting to work on harder problems, and having some easier problems to help motivate her. I also love the time and money questions included since these have been two of the main areas we've been focusing on lately. Overall this is a great supplemental kit for teaching kindergarten age kids math. The pages are durable and made to last through repeated use. These books can be used as a teaching tool and as a review for previous concepts to reinforce those ideas. I recommend this kit to anyone with a kindergarten aged child. It's a great introduction to math for them.

My nephew loved playing with Hot Dot's Let's Master Kindergarten Math. I believe it made him feel like a big kid. He was doing homework. It was fun for him yet he was learning at the same time. He liked ACE, the pen, that makes sounds and talks when you get a problem right or wrong. It kept him occupied for about 25 minutes. I'll be keeping these on hand for the other little ones as well.

My Kindergarten son really enjoys this product! He giggles when the puppy vibrates for a correct answer. He even asked to bring Hot Dots along with him for a long car ride. Being an elementary math teacher, I like that fractions and money are addressed at an early age in the books included. Fun math practice and reinforcement

I received the Hot Dots Jr. Let's Master Kindergarten Math for review purposes. Even though my younger daughter is in Pre-K, I got this set for her for when she masters the Pre-K set. I have gone through the books, and everything aligns up perfectly with the math skills my older daughter learned in Kindergarten last year. I love being able to provide my kids with "toys" that actually teach them things they need to know. We love this line.

I have been really impressed with the Hot Dots program and the way in which they develop from grade to grade. The mechanism stays the same, and the puzzles are similar but each level tests a new skill in a different way and builds on a core foundation. The Kindergarten Math book was more challenging for my son, fresh into Kindergarten this year, he had yet to encounter the written version of a number - eight as opposed to 8. He was excited to see the letters he had been learning, but a little dubious about the words themselves. He said he liked the "other numbers" better. Still, a nice introduction now and it gets him used to the idea of symbols and their real words. As much as he enjoyed Problem Solving in the Pre- books, he really enjoyed Data and Statistics in the Kindergarten books. They closely resembles activities his class does every day in counting down the school days and months on the calendar. The book was good in that, it gave him a task he was familiar with and followed it up with something more challenging. Both books kept this pace and gave him a really good rhythm of encouragement and challenges. By the time we got to the "Challenges" section he was really excited about the math books, though I think we need to do this set several times over before he's ready to move on.

My four year old son will be starting kindergarten next fall and I wanted to start preparing him. This his been a fantastic resource to help introduce him to the things he will need to know when starting kindergarten. He always is much more engaged in learning activities that are fun and Hot Dots Jr. is exactly that... fun! This has helped build his confidence and is something he know asks to use, instead of having to be told it's learning time. Such a great product that I highly recommend!

Hot Dots Jr. Let's Master Kindergarten Math is a super addition for helping my students in Kindergarten. It allows them to have the independence to review skills that we are learning in Kindergarten. I used the Hot Dots in my centers in Kindergarten. The blue puppy wand does a good job of giving instant feedback. I have used other Hot Dot Jr. products in my classroom and the students love them! Kindergarten Math Hot Dots Jr. covers the following areas of math: counting and numbers, patterns, time, shapes/geometry, fractions, measurement, math facts and money.

This is a cute learning set that does require 2 aaa batteries to work which are not included. The cute talking dog wand makes sounds when the child answers correct or incorrectly. The included books teach about counting, subtraction, addition, shapes and more.I love that this allows the child to learn independently.

Hot Dots Jr is keeping my Kindergartener busy! He loves that the dog lights up and barks. I was worried he would grow tired of the two included books quickly, but he keeps going back to them again and again. Great learning tool!
