Q: How long do they last before it's time to change batteries?

When in RF mode, your batteries will drain quicker because of the open frequency that the remote and lights will have vs simply turning the fixtures off. If the fixture was installed using the mounting screw, you can simply slid the fixture to left to unlock it from the mounting screw and pull the fixture down. If the fixture was mounted using the double sided dual lock tape, you will need to slightly pull the fixture down to remove the fixture. For each light, slowly remove adhesive and Velcro to avoid tear or damage for reuse. Remove the battery compartment on the back of the light and insert 6 AA size batteries noting polarity. Disliked: This is not for continuous use. I applied it to the underside of a cupboard above my sink. I used it for better lighting as I did the dishes, but also a night light for the kitchen. It doesn't last. The batteries were new, but the lights themselves din after some time. I would suggest to buy these for occasional use in a linen closet or something similar.

it stopped working after about 3 hours constantly on and got really warm to the touch. I turned off and let cool down and happend again. I'm afraid to leave it on longer than that.

This is a piece of junk unless you own stock in some battery company. It requires 6 AA batteries and mine lasted about 2 hours at best. Kept getting dimmer and dimmer, and those were brand new batteries. Find something that plugs into the wall, although I could find nothing like this on this site.

These use so many batteries and they died extremely fast. I bought a brand new pack of Energizer batteries with these, so I know it wasn’t because of the batteries. I bought these to use for a little more light in my closet, and didn’t use them more than a few minutes a day. The lights died within a month. Not worth replacing the batteries over and over again. They went in the trash.
