Book Synopsis
Jacquie had an exceptionally enriched childhood! She grew up on a farm in a large French-Canadian family in rural Quebec during the early 1960s, when horses were still the main form of transportation. Back then, winters were colder, snow was deeper, and schools were many miles away on gravel roads. One day, out of the blue, Jacquie decided that she wanted to be a writer, and started by describing her pet pig, Rose. From then on, the tall tales grew to unimaginable heights, where the landscape and living things featured as prominently as the invented games the seven younger children played around the farm. Mama and Papere were regularly treated to antics that will have you laughing and crying at the same time. Jacquie and her siblings eventually grew up and left the farm, but not without leaving indelible markers on one another. To her chagrin, as an adult, when she looks in the rear-view mirror, all Jacquie discovers are tailgaters who plague her existence.
