My family loves these pinto beans! We would prefer that they are organic, but unfortunately they are not and that’s the only negative. They taste great and are cheap. We like that they are fat free also.

They taste awful and they are dry. I tried adding water and it wasn't doing much for them.

These beans are a basic organic food that you can add spices to if you wish. For all of the people complaining about the oil, it is just there to allow you to turn the can upside down and the beans slide out. Perhaps the reviewers do not know about this. Add garlic, onion, cayenne pepper, cumin, bacon, or whatever you wish. If you prefer plain, here they are.
Go for regular beans for these

These taste terrible. Buy the regular good and gather beans and put them in your food. Will not buy again.

The beans are hard compared to other brands. I have to add water and/or sour cream when warming them up just to help break them apart. Several cans have also had questionable spots in them.

The beans had a very strange texture and the flavor was not appealing. I generally prefer low fat beans since they skip the lard, but these were just not good.

I usually buy the fat-free beans from Trader Joe’s and have always loved them. I thought they’d be the same from anywhere, I’ve never had any beans from a can I didn’t like… Wrong. These are disgusting. The flavor is just off, like there’s no flavor and yet there’s too many flavors? I can’t describe it. They don’t taste right.
Surprisingly BAD

I’ve tried several national brand fat free refried beans over the years. They were always tasty, smooth and spreadable. The same can not be said for these. They are a solid chunk with some whole beans that are difficult to get out of the can, so tough they are difficult to mash with a fork. After all that effort these FF refried beans taste like nothing at all, except perhaps school library paste. Suggest paying 20 cents more for an edible version.
Worst beans ever

The worst beans I have ever tried. Bland, tasteless. Consistency is like a weird half way cook dough. Stay away from it. It is a disgrace to any beans.

These refried beans had a weird texture. Almost fluffy like. Perhaps because they are fat free. ? Also didn’t taste as good. I will stick with my preference- a brand name non-fat free variety. I would not buy again, even if they were the only ones available.
Canning issue - dark spot/whole in side

Used to be good - lately every can has a weird (and concerning) nickel or quarter-sized dark whole in the side of the can contents. Clearly a canning issue. Maybe they’re leaving air pockets; I don’t know, but it’s uncomfortable and makes me concerned about botulism or something. Don’t recommend buying or eating.

It is funny I’m reading reviews from a year ago saying how watery they are whereas the can I just tried to eat was like desiccated refried bean hell. Like, I never saw anything like it. Imagined like adding flour or corn starch to refried beans til the moisture was just vanished. I even added at least a tablespoon of canola oil as I attempted to heat up on the stove (usually a sure way to soften and thin out any refried bean) but somehow, they would *not thin* … it was strange but we needed something for dinner and I didn’t have any other replacements available so we tried to eat it and that’s when things got even weirder. The beans tasted like nothing. Like, flour and water. I’d say they reminded me of drywall but I feel like drywall would have at least a flavor. There was nothing besides the bizarre texture to let me know they were even there on my taco. We eat refried beans weekly, I’ve had this brand before with no issues (I don’t think they’ve ever been that good but in the realm of canned refried beans the bar is pretty low and these were always an accepted brand for me). Now, I don’t think i could bring myself to buy them again.. at least not without a trusty backup brand to fill in should I encounter the same strangeness I did with these.
No bueno
