Q: will the bin fit in a small condo patio

submitted by frances - 4 years ago
  • A: I ordered a different bin and received this one instead.14 phone calls later (was told only to return product for exchange or full refund no partial credit.)this model cheaper but card charged more costly model. Too big and bulky to return .Finally Asher at corporate was able to give me a target gift card. What a pain to get resolved!

I just started using the tumbler. So far, I like how easy it is to add stuff and turn. The size is perfect for my smaller yard and the two of us in our household.

I Bought 2 For Gifts

I have given 2 of these for gifts and soon I want to buy one for myself. I like that it is up off the ground and easy to turn. I have 2 other composters of my own and they sit on a platform on the ground. During a hurricane both of the platforms floated away in a very high flood tide. Now I just let them sit on the ground and roll them around to mix them. I love my old ones but I would like to try a Hot Frog.

Lightweight and compact so it's easy to fit into most areas in the garden. I had no problem using to create really great compost for my garden.

Even though set up is easy and it's easy to use, it is not bear proof.

Love these. Shipping was free when I bought 2. On sale, $100 off each, fantastic price. Shipped fast. Arrived good condition. Plan to fill 3/4s full so no problems with turning & 1 can cook while other filling. Wish they had rollers on bottom to ease turning full loads. Wish they had drainage collector. Would buy again. Fits my needs fine.

Messy and hard to use

* The opening is too small. It's smaller than my fairly standard-sized countertop compost collector, so it's hard to get scraps into the bin without getting them all over the place. It's hard to get big shovel-fulls of leaves or other browns in. And it's hard to get the compost out when it's done. * The compost leachate leaks out of the bottom and covers the composter as you turn it, making the turning experience pretty gross. The entire bin gets completely covered with compost tea that could have been used for purposes other than making the entire bin - and your hands - smell awful. Maybe I'm not using enough browns, but... see above.

I have a couple of raised beds and a 20 x20 fenced area which I try to keep as organic as I can. I collect all my kitchen plant scraps and yard trim and grass clippings to continuously mulch and turn into the soil.

We mounted base on an old metal/wood table so would be perfect height for me to reach without bending over. It is perfect and so easy and simple to use. Love it!

I have had mine for a year now. I am a very small older woman (but fairly strong for my size) and find it easy to turn. I would say that if you are strong enough to spade a garden, you will find this easy to turn. I keep it near the garden in the warm months and move it up to my patio during the winter here in Maine so I can access it with kitchen scraps. My only complaint is that it is awkward to unload because the entry hole is long and narrow. You really can't get a spade into it so you have to either empty by hand or just dump it out. I screen my compost so I would prefer being able to empty it by the spadeful, screening as I go. That said, I am about to order another one.

It is very difficult to turn. It keeps coming off the base.

Convenient composting

I needed something I could put on the patio outside my kitchen that would be easy to access during the winter months. And I like the feature that allows me to roll this to where I can unload and use the compost. It will be a while before that happens, but I'm ready! I also like how easy it is to rotate to keep the compost working.
