Q: After birth, how often do moms typically need to change this pad (e.g., every 3-5 hours?)? I am wondering if you need fewer of these than the Cooling Pad Liners (e.g., you switch the liner sometimes without switching the pad?)?
submitted by NewMom1 - 5 years ago
A: We suggest changing you Instant Ice Maxi Pad after 30 minutes and replacing your liner after each bathroom use (:

Don't Stay Cold
2 out of 5 stars
Thumbs down graphic, would not recommend
bbamber - 12 days ago, Verified purchaser
Doesn't get as cold as the Medline ice packs I used in the hospital and they don't stay cold as long. Definitely wouldn't recommend. If there's a way to get the Medline ice packs, would recommend those instead.

Cool for 2 or 3 minutes. I don't understand the good reviews. Maybe I got a bad box.

Cool for about 20 minutes. Bulky and uncomfortable to use, especially when the cooling factor wears off.

Too bulky, use the hospital ones

They are too bulky when sitting down, they push on everything that is tender. They are like sitting on an old fashioned water bottle. The cool doesn't last very long. The ones you get from the hospital are thinner and last longer, although they don't absorb as well and aren't in pretty packaging.
Wanted to Love

I really wanted to love these, especially for the convenience. However, as soon as they were in use it was slightly cool then it was just tepid liquid. As if it had melted immediately which was pointless. I thought maybe it was one in the pack but it was all of them and I discontinued use after the 4th one. Definitely don't recommend this product. Hopefully Frida Mom can find a solution for this.

Not cold enough

They don't get cold enough and don't even stay cool for very long. I tried them a few times and they never felt cold. I had much better luck with the diaper ice packs the hospital made plus they were free!

These suck. They're not cold and feel like sitting on a damp balloon. F9r the price i expected them to be more like the ones from the hospital.

These are the best cooling pads, helped so much with my postpartum recovery. Super absorbent and refreshing . Although I took off one star because I wish there were more for the price. They're expensive for the amount that is given. I was a heavy bleeder and was continually going through these.

These ice packs were not cold whatsoever, hardly cool! I even tried adding a little water like you do to the hospital ones. I thought maybe it was defective, but each pack was the same. You're better off buying reusable and washable ice packs you put in the freezer.

Convenient but not effective

Bb - 4 months ago
Very convenient to have in the bathroom after labor. Easy to use, softer material than the ones at the hospital and much more comfortable. Absorptive. However they just don’t get very cold and don’t stay cold for long. Bulky and difficult to walk in.

This is the number 1 most needed/valued postpartum item. These are definitely worth the splurge because they act like a maxi pad while providing ice!

Only cold for a little while and then it feels like you’re wearing a heavy, warm bag of water instead of a pad. It feels nice when it’s cold though

I purchased these for a post-hysterectomy surgery for relief down there. The cooling pad is easy to activate (use) and gave much-needed comfort to take my mind off the pain!
