Pulling and tears near gold stitching

While I love the look, feel, and the gold stitching, the velvet fabric has pulled away from the stitching leaving tears in the quilt. I’m disappointed because it coordinates with the rest of my daughter’s Pillowfort Bedding.

I recently purchased this quilt & the matching shams for my daughters bedroom makeover. I washed them before making her bed and they washed up perfectly. No pilling or loose threads. This material is SO soft. We are all hot sleepers in this house and the quilt is not too heavy to sleep under. It’s perfect!
