A: Cococo, Thank you for your interest in the Gabriel Cedar Chest. This chest does have a sealant over the natural finish that would need to be removed but it can be stained a darker finish. Any alteration will void the warranty.

Dont buy-Hinges break very quickly
This is the older model, has nothing changed? I got this as a gift off of our wedding registry 2.5 years ago. I was so excited about it. At the price I thought it would be decent quality. The hinges became so misaligned (I assume) that they ripped right out of the wood. Only me and my husband using the chest, easy use, no kids, so it doesn’t get used aggressively. It should last much much longer than 2.5 years. If this company could contact me to fix this I would greatly appreciate it. We had to remove the hinges entirely so the wood wouldn’t split in two.

Not the quality that I expected
Really disappointed in this cedar chest. The quality just isn't there. Also had to drill holes for hinges and fasteners and parts just did not line up perfectly. To add insult to injury, the side has something that was supposed to look like real wood markings and it looks like someone stained it then tried to remove it. Super sorry that I spent the money on this.
