I absolutely understand the need for a streamlined, more affordable raised bed, and I was hoping this would fit the bill. I purchased two beds for use on a back patio. After only 1 year of use, one bed is still standing and looks like it'll hold for another year, but the other bed collapsed. The bottom snapped through the supports, and I ended up finishing out the season by stacking cinderblocks underneath the base to hold it up. Even though one of the beds held up well, if you live in a rainy area and cannot control your conditions perfectly, I don't think anything over $100 is worth a gamble like that. I still love Gardeners Supply as a company, but this made me realise I should've just purchased the more expensive cedar beds from the start because the one I have has lasted beautifully.

If you follow the instructions as given, nobody should have a problem. I used container mix and the coir bricks to make sure it was lightweight soil. All my plants are thriving. I have never had such a good year for my yellow squash and beans!!! Thank you!!!

I was hesitant to buy this product due to the one bad review, but I ended up going ahead and purchasing three of these raised beds and I couldn't be happier. They are the perfect size for the space I have and my garden is flourishing! I am planning on buying more when we redo another section of our yard. I'm 5'10" and I have a bad back and I'm so happy that I don't have to bend over to do my gardening. These beds are the perfect height. I absolutely love this product and I highly recommend. I did speak with customer service and they suggested putting a wood oil on it to protect the wood, so I followed their advice and purchased the one they recommended. It was just an extra step but I'm glad I did it. Highly, highly recommend this raised garden bed!

I have purchased many items from this company. I have to say that I am very disappointed with the poor quality of this raised bed. The wood is extremely thin and several times while I was screwing it together I could hear the word cracking and even had one small piece break off. I would be very surprised if this lasted more than one season. It even states in the instructions to use lightweight soil probably because if the soil was very heavy it would break through the wood. I never would have purchased this if I would have been aware of how cheaply it was made. It reminded me of when I was a kid and used to buy the little wood airplanes that you assemble that were made out of very thin lightweight wood. I definitely would not recommend this item.

We suggest using lightweight potting soil in these planters not only because of the weight, but because it is better at providing the living soil mix that plants need to thrive. It is also more likely to provide sufficient drainage and an even moist medium for plants to grow. While the wood is thin, it is strong, rot and pest resistant. We've tested it through our harsh Vermont winters with no issues. Also, it is accurately depicted in our photos.
