Used this product on a 4 day, 326 mile bike packing trip with friends. Group ride work with other Garmin Edge devices. I was very concerned about battery life, especially on the 100 mile day, however had zero issues. I did charge every night. Pre loaded the map and used this device as primary navigation. Only issue was near tall buildings in very large city with tall buildings, but it quickly corrected itself. Many features I love to include touch screen.
Great upgrade from older version.

Much better battery life, the climb pro is really an excellent feature and the maps seem to respond much more quickly. Also love the bigger color screen. Only problems found so far is that the Dexcom integration does not work despite hours of trying everything I can find if the display get wet that all sorts of bad things happen such as fields move around or new screens and setting appear and will no go away unless I turn it off and back on.
Great upgrade

Upgraded from a 1040 that was 7 years old and had experienced the dreaded “battery expansion”. This device is very responsive, has a really crisp display, great sound features and has been a great upgrade.
Mostly great except...

I've used this for my rides the past 2 weeks. I'm really impressed with the graphics and the ability to customize my screens. However, 2 things really bother me. First, at times the current speed jumps around significantly (between 1 and 2 mph) despite me keeping a consistent cadence. Second, the grade is terrible...says I'm going down when I'm going up and vice versa. I've seen much less expensive head units from other manufacturers with grade readings that not only work correctly, but are accurate to tenths of a degree. Garmin really disappoints on this, and although users have been reporting the grade problems for a long time, Garmin has not addressed it.
Great computer, bad mount location.

Should have kept the mount location centered. Now I’m scrambling to look for an offset mount for both of my bikes. Great job of engineering a problematic issue for cyclists.

Garmin sets the bar high and cleared it again in my opinion. It does take a while to figure out the settings, menu nav, etc but it's not too difficult. The only negative is the time it took to download the new map but that's a one-off. Overall highly recommend.

Replaces my 1030 which outlived its life. So much more with the 1050! Tells me when and how much to drink and fuel during a ride and how much at conclusion. Let’s you know how long and steep a climb and how much left. So many features!!

I've had more issues with this Edge than all of my others combined. Many hours spent on the phone with Garmin support. Bottom line, disappointed.

I have only completed one ride with the unit so far. I spent time setting the unit up and headed out for a 7 hr ride. The unit locked up within 1 mile. I reset and tried 2 more times with the unit locking up within 1 mile. Garmin support was not helpful, but internet searches led me to do a complete factory reset. I since have completed 1 2 hour ride with no issue. We will see how reliable it is....

Incredibly improved over the 1030 in screen vivid brightness & readability with lock print. I’m now able to ride with out wearing my Rx sunglasses. This is more user friendly and easier to set up.

I've owned Garmin Edge's for years. The new 1050 is so superior to the earlier models. Set up was easy, took about a minute scanning the QR code. Very fast unit, easy to read screen due to high resolution and graphics. The product is more for the intermediate and advanced user. Lots of info packed into the 1050.

I bought the Edge 1050 a month ago, it is really good, I love all the measures and the possibility to pair a lot of sensors. I would like the screen must be more súperb for the cost.
Extremely reliable

I’ve upgraded from the Edge 530 to the 1050 and, overall, the improvement is marginal. While the device is slightly more responsive, and the battery life and screen resolution have noticeably improved, key features remain problematic: Mapping Functionality: The navigation/map function is still suboptimal—slow to load and not particularly intuitive during use. ClimbPro & Gradient Accuracy: The gradient readings are frequently inaccurate, especially during climbs. This severely limits the usefulness of the device for serious elevation-focused training or racing. I’ve worked directly with the technical team on these issues, but unfortunately, no resolution has been achieved to date.

This my 5th edge in the series. The Edge 1050 is an excellent computer that is packed with features, and the updates to the screen and processing speed make it very nice to use. It comes with a heavy price tag, if you want to take advantage of everything a computer like this can do, and can afford it, you'll love it. My only down side is the brightness of the screen & sleep mode. Screen can crack if using on a MTB bike. Overall I am extreamly satisfied with the Edge 1050

I bought the Edge 1050 with the hope of it measuring Distance, Time, Pace-Speed while riding bike. I have a habit of buying basic of something with out it being full featured and then having to upgrade. I bought the 1050 to solve that problem. Unfortunately I've found it to be too advanced for my immediate needs. Been away from cycling and running for a few years due to Prostate issues. Had Lazer surgery and can now resume cycling and running. Training for 25 mile very hilly Closer to Free cancer ride 6 Sep. 25. I ride various routes and terrain. At this time all I need is Distance, Time and Speed. After the event and living in Connecticut, I'll spend the fall getting familiar with the 1050. Finally, at this this time I don't need a device to plan routes for me. Just give me the basic above information and I'll plan the route. I'm quite sure the 1050 is a excellent product but, too much for me to absorb at this time. Yes, I did try using it. It was frustrating to get it to do what I wanted.

Short version: This is my 4th Garmin cycling computer. It is the worst. Garmin's beeps and red banners have me staring down at it when it thinks there's a hazard nearby, which is EXACTLY NOT what a cyclist needs to be doing in that situation. The 1050 is a source of nuisance distractions, and a negative for safe alert cycling.
1 reply from Care team - 1 month ago
I'm sorry to hear that the Edge 1050 isn't quite what you expected. If you'd prefer not to hear the alert tones and see the hazard banners, you can disable those on the device. To disable the alert tones: select the three lines (the hamburger menu) > System > Sounds > Tones > press the speaker icon to mute all sounds. To disable the hazard alert banners: select the three lines (the hamburger menu) > Activity Profiles > select a profile > Alerts and Prompts > Road Hazard Warnings. For full details of other alerts you can disable, check out this link: http://ms.spr.ly/6428ShAuC If you have any additional questions, please contact Garmin Support at 800-800-1020, then select option 3 to reach our Fitness team, then select option 6 to speak with our team of Edge experts. *KC
