Book Synopsis

Lou Thatcher is haunted by ghosts-friendly ghosts-but when she finds herself involved in a murder investigation, she's in for the fright of a lifetime in this new cozy mystery, perfect for fans of Amanda Flower and Ellen Byron.

Tallulah "Lou" Thatcher has a gift: she can see dead people. But in New Orleans, Louisiana, this is not a drawback. On the contrary, her ability to see ghosts helps her host viral ghost tours through the historic Garden District. When rival tour guide Adam Brandt-who accused her of faking her encounters to undercut his business-is found murdered, Lou is the only one who can see him . . . his ghost, that is.

It's no secret Adam and Lou were feuding and with the absence of a suspect, she's the only one with a clear motive. After detective Dylan Finch, Lou's longtime crush, reveals the murder weapon was a ceremonial dagger from Lou's shop, she's officially declared the prime suspect. Determined to prove her innocence, Lou starts investigating right away.

Weaving her way through Adam's business partnerships, friendships, and kinships, Lou must uncover who wished to see him dead before the killer tries to silence her forever.

Haunting and Homicide by Ava Burke is the debut of A Ghost Tour Mysteries. The author takes the time to establish the main character, Tallulah “Lou” Thatcher, and secondary characters (Lou’s grandmother for example. I like the entertaining ghosts. I enjoyed the descriptions of the places Lou visits on her ghost tour in New Orleans and while she was investigating. I also enjoyed the depictions of Lou’s shop and her grandmother's house where Lou resides. The whodunit has Lou finding her nemesis dead, and she finds herself to be the prime suspect. Lou asks questions from the living and the dead. She manages to get herself into trouble several times while searching for the truth. The grandmother’s boyfriend was an interesting addition. I did not feel that a love interest was needed for Lou especially after she kept going on about her crush on her best friend’s brother. The story got off to a good start, but then it slowed down as Lou went about her day-to-day life. There were repetitive details that included information about Lou’s parents, details about the ghosts, and intel about the murder. Haunting and Homicide is a cute story, and I will pick up the next book in A Ghost Tour Mysteries. Haunting and Homicide is a spirted tale with a troublesome tour host, a gammy grandma, a departed rival, a dapper detective, an unexpected visitor, and a precious puppy.
