Book Synopsis

She left home to find herself--instead she found true love

Almost two years after Lilly Kurtz first visited Pinecraft, Florida, she's decided to make a fresh start there. She's ready to be new-and-improved Lilly, a Lilly without a past, a Lilly with no secrets. At first, everything goes well. She gets a job, her coworkers feel like family, and she enjoys reconnecting with her friends. But it turns out the past is reluctant to be left behind.

When Lilly meets hardworking farmer Eddie Byler, she can't get him off her mind. But then she discovers that Eddie isn't staying long in Pinecraft--and he actually lives just a few miles from her hometown in Ohio. Lilly doesn't want him to know about the life she's left . . . and she can't imagine following him back to a place where she's never felt accepted.

Will Lilly have to give up on love in order to find peace? Or could it be that love is actually the solution to all of her problems?

"Gray sketches a tender portrait of a young woman seeking her place in the world. This feel-good finale will delight Gray's fans."--Publishers Weekly

"Her Secret Hope lovingly encapsulates the emotional impact of adoption into adulthood and the complexity of using past circumstances to determine present self-worth."--Booklist

A touching Amish tale!

Her Secret Hope by Shelley Shepard Gray has Lilly Kurtz returning to Pinecraft for a fresh start. It has been two years since her first visit to the unique Amish and Mennonite town. Lilly was adopted as a baby and her family never kept it a secret. Actually, it seems one of the first things Mrs. Kurtz’s tells people (heavens knows why). Lilly also did not feel accepted by the children at school. Mary Margaret, Betsy, and Esther are the first true friends Lilly had had in her life. I know what it is like to feel that you do not fit in and to have people judge you. Lilly may be in a new city, but she has still has to learn to let people get to know her. It seems that Lilly keeps a protective a shield around her. The characters are realistic and developed. I like that we get to catch up with Mary Margaret, Betsy, Esther, and their husbands. Lilly gets a job at bed and breakfast that is run by Nancy (the place the young women stayed on their first visit to Pinecraft). I like that we get to catch up with Nancy and her friendly chef. Lilly may believe that she is destined to remain single, but it seems God has other plans for her. Of course, Lilly needs to be willing to let down her barriers and be happy with who she is. I just love November Byler. She is a spirited character. I hope I am as lively and quick witted at that age. I did feel that the story moved a little slow in places and there was a repetition of details. The author captured Pinecraft and Siesta Key. I understood why Lilly liked going to Siesta Key beach, it is a beautiful beach (it is my favorite beach). Her Secret Hope is the third and final book in A Season in Pinecraft series. It can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading the series in order. It will allow you to get to know the characters and their stories. There are good life lessons in Her Secret Hope including that God is in control. Her Secret Hope is a touching tale with a returning friend, a spirited grandmother, a bored farmer, a flirtatious chef, an alarming allegation, and a gracious God.

Lilly is a young Amish woman who has left her midwestern home to live in Pinecraft, Florida. Adopted as a small child, her austere parents never let her, or anyone else, forget that. She has decided she wants to do as her friends have done, move to Florida and start a new life. But things are different now. Lilly had counted on all of them hanging out together the way they had done when they were all single. However, her friends have all married, so can't do as much with her as they did before. To make it worse, the job she has as a housekeeper has turned into a nightmare. A guest wrongly accused Lilly of stealing. She claimed her sweater was taken when her room was cleaned, and insists Lilly took it. Lilly's boss did not stand up for her, and it appears she may be fired. Eddie and his grandmother are visiting Pinecraft and make Lilly a proposal. Although unorthodox, it may be an answer to her prayers. It would also give her time to explore her feelings for Eddie. This tale had some surprising twists, and the ending was unexpected--especially if you have read the other books in the series. The story is clean, and stands on its own. I love the setting in Florida, and the descriptions of the area. Fans of Amish tales, and well-written stories will love this five-star book. Thank you, Revell Books, for providing Tickmenot with a book to review. Opinions are my own.

Lovely Series Conclusion!

Such a wonderful way to wrap up a series! Readers are reunited with characters from the previous books and given the chance to know one of them even better. Oh, how I loved Lilly Kurtz! She is sweet, thoughtful, and giving, and so painfully aware that she is adopted. Thankfully, she has old friends who value her worth, and two new friends who recognize just how special she is. Eddie Byler and his grandmother November are both gems and I loved the respect and support that they offer Lilly, something that has been lacking in Lilly's relationship with her parents. I must say that I had a hard time liking Fran and Gabe Kurtz, but author Shelley Shepard Gray is able to redeem them in my eyes. More proof that she has a unique talent for placing fallible characters in everyday situations and making them likable and believable! A Season in Pinecraft has been an enjoyable series and Her Secret Hope may be my favorite of the three books. It has sweet romance, characters that I would enjoy knowing, and a setting that I would love to visit one day! I recommend this book to all who enjoy contemporary Amish romance. I received a complimentary copy from Revell through a Library Thing giveaway. There was no obligation for a positive review.

Another visit to the Amish in Pinecraft is just what I needed to get me out of a reading funk! Lilly Kurtz goes to Pinecraft, carrying a baggage of secrets that she left behind in Ohio, but determined to start her life again on the beaches of Pinecraft. There she meets Eddie Byler, a hard working farmer from the area that she left behind. Although the two are attracted to each other, both have trouble developing relationships because they don’t want to be open with each other. The way the romance progresses is so realistic and heart-warming, with some false starts and several stops before it moved along. The characters are charming, witty and kind. My favorite characters was Eddie’s grandmother, an elderly lady with a lot of wisdom and one who wants to live the end of her life on her own terms. Independent and sassy, she added a lot of humor to the story. I enjoyed the pace of the plot as it was just right for the rhythm of the courtship that was just getting started, but my favorite part of the book was getting to read about characters that I had gotten to know in previous Pinecraft books and how they were thriving together. This book can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend that readers enjoy the entire series because each book is uplifting and faith-filled. Back in Pinecraft!

I am really enjoying this series. I believe that we met all of the main characters in book one but each of the following books has centered on an individual girl. This time around it is Lilly Kurtz. Somehow she got up the courage to actually move to Pinecraft and take a position at the Marigold Inn. Both of her friends are now living in Pinecraft so it seemed like the logical next step for her. Of course both of her friends were now married so she was a bit surprised by how little time she actually was able to spend with them. It was kind of one of those lonely in a crowd situations. Of course there has to be an interesting guy involved. That would be Eddie. He is on vacation with his grandma and takes an interest in Lilly. She's very wary of becoming involved with him because he will be leaving soon. But the attraction is strong and keeps her pursuing a relationship with Eddie. I have enjoyed getting to know Lilly and her story through this series. She is the most shy of the three girls which of course makes her the most cautious. The story of how she and Eddie work through all the hurdles in making their relationship work was the perfect way to end this series. When you get to the end of a story and you want to know more about what happens to the characters as their lives progress you know the book has been good. That's the way this book and series were for me. My hope is that these characters will make repeat appearances in upcoming stories. I recommend this book and series to anyone who enjoys contemporary fiction with an Amish twist.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Season in Pinecraft series by Shelley Shepard Gray, and Her Secret Hope is the perfect way to wrap up the series. This is Lilly Kurtz’s story. She moved to Pinecraft to be with her friends and ends up finding herself, happiness, and love. Lilly and Eddie Byler’s story is so much fun to read, and Eddie’s grandmother, November is so funny and full of wisdom! Shelley Shepard Gray writes with lots of emotion and it shows on each page. Her characters are very realistic, likeable and three dimensional; full of depth and emotion. This book could be read as a standalone book, but is much better read in order. This is a very sweet Amish romance, and I highly recommend this book! I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions in this review are my own.

This is book 3 of the series. I felt it was a bit slower and it took a while for me to engage. It touched upon adoption and the feelings that go along with that, which is a topic that has touched my life in many ways. I love the Pinecraft setting and the book makes me want to go see it for myself. This was a clean and sweet Amish romance. I enjoyed seeing some of the characters from the previous books in this series. The book did touch upon forgiveness, and had sweet characters that filled the pages. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. All thoughts are my own.

Her Secret Hope the third and final installment of A Season in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray. Her Secret of Hope is a must-read adventure of the last wallflower in the bunch, Lilly Kurtz. Lilly Kurtz the last of the wallflowers finally sets out after two long years of wanting to be back in Pinecraft, FL with her friends. Never feeling like she fit in with her own family because she was adopted by a couple with older children and there was never a connection there like she has had with the wallflowers. Lilly arrives Pinecraft and takes a job back at the very Inn she was a guest in and right away she meets Eddie and November, which really are some great breakout characters. You are taken through the ups and downs of a new and fast relationship with well-meaning friends and a crafty grandmother. While catching up with the other wallflowers. Along with a new relationship Lilly has to face some difficult choices after what she believed she wanted for two years was not going as planned. I love that there was twist and turns in this book that you didn’t see coming until the very end. This book had me laughing, crying and celebrating. I highly recommend, this book can be also read as a stand-alone book, but for the best overall history I recommend reading all three books, you won’t be sorry. I am sorry to see this series end.
