About the Book

Did you know that the authors of the Bible copied texts from Egyptian literature? And that the women of Amarna were the first to wear hair extensions? Who would have thought that the Nile was not the calm stream of water we know today? Ancient Egypt keeps appearing in news items and documentaries which, however, always seem to focus on the same aspects of this fascinating culture. In Stories of the history of Ancient Egypt, the author broadens the spectrum of questions about the world of the pharaohs and life on the banks of the Nile for the enjoyment of the interested or the merely curious. Profusely illustrated and written in an entertaining and accessible way for all types of readers, it deals with subjects as varied as the love of the Egyptians for their gardens and their supposedly limited use of violence, but also the system they used to transport their goods in a world (theoretically) without wheels. Likewise, Parra pays attention to Egypt's everlasting contacts with the Syria-Palestine area and the mutual influences between the two regions. Of course, being the country of mummies as it is, he couldn't help but review the business of death. This transition to the other world came to people much more easily then than it does today, and the evidence the author presents is surprising. In the same way, he reviews the little-known economic capacity enjoyed by women, the strange relationship that the pharaoh's subjects generally had with tasty pigs and many other aspects of the pharaonic world, all equally fascinating and surely little known to the reader.
