Couldn't assemble artificial tree

My husband and I couldn't assemble the two sections of this tree and neither could the staff members who tried at the time I returned it to the store. They suggested I try another one and see if it was easier to assemble so I ordered another. It seemed though that it would be quite satisfactory if we could get it together.
