In the winter of 1820, the New England whaling ship Essex was assaulted by something no one could believe: a whale of mammoth size and will, and an almost human sense of vengeance. The real-life maritime disaster would inspire Herman Melville's Moby-Dick. But that told only half the story. "Heart of the Sea" reveals the encounter's harrowing aftermath, as the ship's surviving crew is pushed to their limits and forced to do the unthinkable to stay alive. Braving storms, starvation, panic and despair, the men will call into question their deepest beliefs, from the value of their lives to the morality of their trade, as their captain searches for direction on the open sea and his first mate still seeks to bring the great whale down.

The film was rated lower by reviewers but after buying it and seeing the film for myself I really enjoyed it. It's basically a period piece from the old whaling days with a mix of supernatural Moby Dick. They basically try to establish that the book was not story but true events. Visually it's very impressive, and sound is awesome if you have a sound system. All the actors did great and the performances were spot on. The negative is the pacing is slightly slow but considering the length of the film and how everything progresses it does fit in. Now if you're expecting nonstop action remember that this is not a Jaws film or Pirates of the Caribbean. I rated the value lower was due the fact that it's not a film you would revisit multiple times.
