Kids’ measuring guide

Use the tips & visuals in this guide to make taking your child's body measurements easy-peasy.

Dont have a fabric tape measure? Use a shoelace or pant leg to measure. Then, lay it flat & use a ruler or tape measure to get a numerical measurement.

How to measure

  • Height

    Have your child stand in front of the fridge.Mark the top of the head with a magnet. Measure a straight line from floor to magnet.

  • Chest

    Have your child make airplane arms. Wrap tape measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping it level & snug.

  • Waist

    With your child bending to one side, measure the point where the waist flexes naturally. Keep the tape level & comfortably loose.

  • Hip

    Have your child stand like a tall tree with feet together. Measure a level line around the fullest part of the hips & seat.

  • Inseam

    Take a pair of pants that fit your child well. Measure along the seam from crotch to leg opening.

    5 years of buying. Still love!

    I’ve bought these for 5 years! I love them for my kiddos! They are perfect when come out of our chilly Lake Michigan or Lake Superior! Great for a breezy day! Work amazing. And they pass down well!

    So soft and dries fast

    Bought 2 Of these for my daughter! They are soft, not too hot and dry fast. Perfect for after the pool, boat rides back to the dock, or when she gets out of the lake up North. Please make this in an adult size! All the women in my family want one too!

    If not purchased on sale, I would return this swim cover. I've loved Lands End products for 44 years at least, always finding them to be of excellent quality and style. Trusting my experience, I purchased this beach cover for my 6-year old granddaughter who is an avid swimmer and water nut. When I ordered it, I failed to notice that the fabric content was polyester, but then again, poly can at times be soft, gently woven and absorbent and look great--and the price was right. So... However, this item is fuzzy, fleecy and of highly doubtful absorbency and am certain it will be HOT in the summer. I could not wear anything like it---nor do I believe my granddaughter will wear my gift. I am highly disappointed

    Need in Misses Sizes!

    I purchased this in a child size XL for myself, a grown- up woman who wanted a long-sleeved, hooded coverup. I guarantee it would sell out in adult sizes! Fits snug on my body but it’s still great.

    Good (but Size-Up)

    Nice quality, soft. Only concern was the size. Daughter is 9y/o (she’s skinny and still wears size 7/8 in most things). I sized up to “Large” and am glad I did or it would have been way too small/tight for her. Even the Large is not very roomy. My recommendation for others is to definitely size-up.

    Very useful cover-up

    My granddaughter has just started swimming lessons and didn’t want the problem of quickly trying to get dressed when feeling a bit damp. This towelling cover-up works really well.
