Kids’ measuring guide

Use the tips & visuals in this guide to make taking your child's body measurements easy-peasy.

Dont have a fabric tape measure? Use a shoelace or pant leg to measure. Then, lay it flat & use a ruler or tape measure to get a numerical measurement.

How to measure

  • Height

    Have your child stand in front of the fridge.Mark the top of the head with a magnet. Measure a straight line from floor to magnet.

  • Chest

    Have your child make airplane arms. Wrap tape measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping it level & snug.

  • Waist

    With your child bending to one side, measure the point where the waist flexes naturally. Keep the tape level & comfortably loose.

  • Hip

    Have your child stand like a tall tree with feet together. Measure a level line around the fullest part of the hips & seat.

  • Inseam

    Take a pair of pants that fit your child well. Measure along the seam from crotch to leg opening.

    I bought these for my granddaughter who is highly sensitive to how clothing feels. She loves these. They are extremely stretchy and not tight at all. I would buy them again

    I bought 6 pair of these about 3 months ago. What I liked: -the waistband is clearly higher quality than other brands. -the material is a little thicker. What I disliked: -the waistband elastic should be sewed down but it isn't so it twists inside the waistband casing. -the fabric didn't hold up as long as a different brand we have on at least 1 pair of the leggings. We have only had these for 3 months and 2 weeks. -I purchased based off of the warranty that I remember but I don't see any warranty information on it.

    I bought these for my daughter last year in a size L. They were great for my long legged girl, but now are getting small. I ordered XL this year and they are extremely big! When laid flat the waist band is 3" bigger and the inseam is 6" longer! I bought 3 pairs of leggings and they are all this big, so it isn't just one mistake.

    I bought these for all four of my granddaughters. They like to wear them with tee shirts and under their dresses when the weather gets cooler. They fit well and we will see how the tough cotton stands up to their active lifestyles.

    We've been buying these leggings for my daughter to wear under her uniform jumper for three years now. She wears a pair every single day for four months. The first pairs I bought her kindergarten year lasted kindergarten AND first grade (amazing!!). I just bought her new ones before second grade (because she had sized out of them and actually passed two pairs on to a friend!) and they only lasted this year. Two of the pairs got holes in the knees before the four months were up. Just not the same quality.

    The 1st time my 6 year old wore these, she sat "criss cross applesauce" in school and the seam in crotch split. This has never happened to me with Lands End products. I mended them, since she liked everything else about them.

    Patterns are really cute and used to love these pants. But material is now see through, even with dark colors! If a kid can't bend in the fabric it is useless. These have much thinner fabric than prior years. So disappointed in the quality decline

    Very comfortable, good quality. We got the solid blue and they look great with her magenta tops and socks and her blue denim jacket. She has already worn them twice and soiled them at the playground both times (including grass stains), but they cleaned up well in washer and still look new.
