Learning Resources Gemology! Crystal Lab: Science Kit for Kids with Experiment Guide, Kindergarten Educational Focus

Looking forward to using this at Christmas with the grandchildren.

DO NOT BUY THIS! If there was an option for a 0 star, I would give it a zero. Absolutely ridiculous for kids. Takes way too long. Makes a complete mess. The kids were not interested in it after 2 minutes. The ratios of salt and water weee off and some things didn’t even work. Waste of time and money.

This kit is cute, and the instructions are solid. But I just don’t love that it doesn’t come with the household items needed to do the activities. It was slightly misleading. I feel like this set was kind of a “one and done” for us. Not too exciting.

As soon as my daughter saw the box she was so excited to see what was inside. On our first attempt at making anything, we didn't have most of the ingredients, so we went for the simple gems which she loved. Once dried she was able to box them up and take them to nursery to show her friends. The kit itself is well made and can withstand use from an over eager 3 year old who can be a little clumsy at times. The instructions are easy to follow and the kit can be used time and time again which is definitely a bonus. The only downside for me is that the kit comes with no ingredients at all, a small amount of the less likely 'normal' household items would have been great, although all can be easily purchased. Overall the Gemology kit gets a definite thumbs up in our house, it keeps my daughter entertained for hours, it's educational and she enjoys sharing her creations with her friends and teachers.

We were excited as soon as we opened the box, it was full of tubs and colourful gem cases. We unpacked everything and looked at the instructions. There are a few experiments you can do, all written with simple easy to follow instructions. We were then a little disappointed as most of the experiments needed Epsom salts – not a problem we popped out to get some but would perhaps be better if this was stated on the front of the box? Then we got to work. We used the tools to open the cases and set everything out, we weighed the salts, measured the water, added some food colouring (optional) and completed a couple of the experiments. We had to wait a day or 2 to see the results but it was lots of fun monitoring them over this time. The good thing about this set it that the pieces seem strong enough to use time and time again for the same experiments or with other pay. They now live in our science draw and I'm sure will be used lots over time.

Both of my children love making crystals, but sometimes with the instructions and chemicals you have to use, my 4 year old gets left out.. This is where this fantastic kits comes into its own!.. Using simple ingredients ( Epsom salt & food colouring ).. your youngsters will have lots of fun making their very own crystals! I love how simple this set is to use, and visually appealing it is!.. My 4 year old couldn't wait to get started on some of the experiments! This kit comes with everything you need ( apart from the ingredients which you will have to buy ).. including tools.. mixing chambers and large geodes that you can crack open with the tools!.. He has had so much fun and learnt so much with this kit.. and we have only done 2 of the different experiments so far! The kit is well made and can be used time and time again.. I would definitely recommend this kit for any budding little scientist!

A nice little kit to create your very own crystal like creations .This kit is best suited for 4-6 year olds. It includes lots of bits to stir and mix your creations and press and shape into gemstone shapes. A lovely booklet inculded gives advice on how to follow simple experiments to create crystals and gems. You will however need to buy ingredients to create them, such as flour, oil, food colouring and salts. Fun for little ones who enjoy mixing up their own concoctions!
