It went together pretty easily and then took it into the bath and it floats. My grandson is 7.

This set is very impressive when fully built and it comes packed with a lot of interesting stories. I like that it is easily modular allowing access to the entire ship. The Orca was also an awesome addition to this set and I am very happy Lego added it to pick-a-brick so I could add a few more to this scene. My biggest wish is that they would have made it one solid hull like the hull from set 7994. As that boat is one of my favorites from the city line because of the size of the hull. This one however is right there with it because of the size and inclusion of the Orca. Overall this set is very impressive when it's fully built and has a load of fun features that make it a must buy for anyone who is still considering it.

This ship is amazing! Excellent interior details, a moon pool, an inflatable raft, a helicopter and even a little ROV for exploring the ocean floor. This is what I call a playset. This set receives an A+ from the Brick Professor.

Built this set with my son, it's been on both of our wish lists for a while. Definitely worth it. Still have yet to test the floating claim, but will do when it warms up.

This gift arrived sooner than expected, and my son loved the experience of building it. He wanted a “big boat” and this definitely fit the bill. He can’t wait for summer to watch it float.

Having worked on an ice-capable R/V myself, this one was a no-brainer. And it is a big boy! And very playable! Will try it out in my hot tub, and report back. Piece count was low, but you do get an orca, transportation, and a really cool little shipwreck. The mini figures are detailed, but if you collect the artic sets, you will have seen them all before. So your mileage may very on this set as to why you want it. Oh! And stickers :/

High quality, and a great Lego to play with because it is sturdy.
Bad structural integrity

First off this is a great set it's big and floats quite well but I feel the structural integrity is not great where the two hull pieces meet. If it's not going to be in the ocean or rough waves it's fine but it can snap in half because of the flexibility of the technic bricks supporting it. These can easily be replaced by 2x4s or 2x6 bricks but this really is a great set.
Very cool set

I had originally talked myself out of buying this set. Then I went on an Alaska cruise and saw orcas, so this was too fitting to pass up. The set has loads of play features. Because of the large hulls and new orca piece, the set is expensive, overpriced, really. I'm glad I waited for double points and a GWP before buying it. *The ship: This is LEGO's longest floating ship. It has a sleek, colorful, realistic design. The structures and interiors are very nice. The outside deck feels underequipped. I added accessories such as extra diving gear, a deep diving helmet, knives, snow shoes, a saw, and a surveillance drone with a hinged housing. *The helicopter: It's cute and swooshable. Not realistic compared with real choppers on research vessels. I wouldn't want to ride in arctic air in an unenclosed cabin. It holds only one minifigure. No room for a passenger or cargo. I added storage boxes to the sides. *The raft: It's suitable. Holds a driver and a scientist/photographer with two clips for equipment. *The crane: Three of its four functions work well. It's very hard to tip up and down. There was surely a better, smoother design that used a worm gear or an actuator. *The ROV: Simple but effective and realistic. It's a nice inclusion. *The shipwreck: A little bigger like the wrecks in similar sets would've been nice, but this has neat colors and building techniques with cool sunken Viking gear.
Big! Fun!

Don’t let the piece count (price per piece) fool you, this set is BIG with a lot of large plates and a load of cool minifigs. Pro: lots of fun playing with this in the water e.g. you can lower the little sub through a hole in the middle of the ship. Con: despite being made of plastic, I swear legos never fully dry. I picked this thing up after 3 days drying and kept finding water falling out from some nook or cranny. Overall recommended as it adds an entirely different dimension of playability in water. Just have some extra towels on hand and a place to let this sit out to try to dry for days after.
Fun for everyone

Built many sets over my lifetime, this one was a blast for my son to dive into ;) . The only thing I would change in this set is the stickers! Its a wet set and the stickers will degrade overtime with water exposure.

Great set, spent a good morning with my son building it together and afterwards filled up the bath to play with it. The curious cat however thought it was something to stand on. Que water, sinking ship and parts everywhere. Great experience 😀

The boat has a major structural flaw in that there are only a single connection amidships around the well deck and that any serious play results in collapse as the stem and stern separate. Otherwise the build is fun and detailed and the amount of extras is great - helo, zodiac, scuba divers, underwater camera

This is bigger than expected and building the ship has been easy fun. Given the size and heft, we have yet to test how it floats, nonetheless a good set to add to other marine exploration ones.

I loved having lots of characters and places to put them. It's a huge boat and feels really fun as a set, you can set it up in so many different ways. My only complaint is that the dinghy doesn't fit in the back unless you make modifications. It would be great to have a crane hook for the dinghy too.

Got this for my 9 year old daughter for Christmas. She's new at building Lego sets, so she needed a lot of help with a set this complex. But she absolutely loves it and so do I. And it really does float!
