Illegal activity!
I. Am. LIVID! I ordered this Chromebook as brand new and it showed up as open box. I do not purchase open box items: missing items, voided warranties, possible malicious hidden programs, etc. Nowhere in the item description was "open box" listed; only new. After opening the shipping box, I immediately saw the broken factory seal, torn cardboard and grease spots.... This was obviously in someone else's possession. I now have to return this and take the time to contact Corporate to inform them of this incident. It is illegal/fraudulent for a company to sell an open box item as brand new.

To help, first, as a note, this Chromebook does not feature a backlit keyboard, and the keyboard layout and design is dictated by the Chromebook standard. If you're experiencing performance issue, to try to resolve this, try doing a hardware reset (visit the following link to learn how to do so: https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/3227606?hl=en&sjid=11168473644130281663-NA), which reboots the embedded controller that manages your touchpad. If this doesn't resolve your issue, you may need to factory reset your Chromebook, which you can learn more about towards the bottom of the webpage tied to the previously embedded link. Completely doesn't work
I’m in a little bit of shock right now because I bought this for my 12 yr old daughter for Christmas at the end of November and it just completely shut down last night (March 20) as we were going to finish a project that is due today. Now what? Luckily we had a backup computer and her work was saved to google docs, but I’m still in shock. Now what?? I also just noticed that it has happened to others?? I’ve never had this happen to me with any other computers we’ve owned. Totally disappointed.

If you are still experiencing this issue, first, we recommend doing a reset on the device. Pushing the power button, or rebooting, does not remove the trickle charge that keeps the embedded controller (EC) running. A hard reset drops all power to the EC, so when the power comes back on it goes through a reinitialization. Since the EC controls the keyboard, touchpad, battery, and all other on-board peripherals, performing this it can potentially fix a wide range of problems. The procedure is detailed on this web page: https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/3227606?hl=en . Some devices require specific steps, but most newer devices only require a simple keyboard sequence: First turn off your Chromebook completely (do not just close the lid). Next, hold down the Refresh keyboard icon key and then press and hold the Power button. Hold both down for 10 seconds. Release the Refresh key and then the Power button and your Chromebook will restart. If it does not start, press Power again. If your issues persist after this, we recommend reaching out to Lenovo Tech Support for Chromebooks at this number: 800-426-7378.
