Description
The Master Lock No. 178D Set Your Own Combination Padlock features a 2in (51mm) wide solid body for strength and reliability. The 5/16in (8mm) diameter shackle is 1in (25mm) long and made of hardened steel, offering extra resistance to cutting and sawing. The 4-digit dialing allows for thousands of possible numeric combinations.

DO NOT BUY MASTERLOCK. Purchased this lock two years ago for occasional use on a gate. Attempted to open the lock after a week away and it will not open.

This lock is terrible. Rotating the numbers was stiff to start and after 2 years in outdoor protected area, almost impossible to turn the tumblers. There was a bit of corrosion on tumblers, so I degreased it it with brake cleaner and used industrial strength vinegar to clean brass, then lubed with quality light oil spray (firearm lubricant). The brass is very shiny now, but the tumblers only work slightly better. Still almost impossible to turn them. Broke a fingernail trying to rotate. Replaced it with the other lock larger with free rotating numbers, and works amazing. Save yourself the aggravation, go with the better lock instead.

I bought 2 of these locks on July 10th of 2022 to use on my sheds in my backyard. We're not even completely through the Winter and they will no longer open I've tried to move the tumblers as much as I can and I'm just not having any luck. In my opinion these locks are a big fail if they can't even function properly during our Winter And today it's actually 10ﾟC and they still will not open anymore. Very disappointed considering the amount I paid for these locks and they didn't even last a year. I will try lubricating them to see if I can open them but failing that I will be forced to have to cut them open. Never again will I buy these locks.

Loved how easy the lock was at first that I bought two. Went to open in the spring and BOTH locks wouldn’t open. Was able to open one after 20 minutes and still working on the second. If you live in New England do NOT buy.
