[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used McCormick ground nutmeg today to make oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. The top of the product has changed and instead of being a screw top, it's best to pop it off with a knife the first time it's used to take the seal off. After that, it twists right back on. Our cookies came out delicious and the nutmeg smelled good right out of the package. I can't wait to use this during the holidays. I would recommend this product and brand to a friend.

I have tried everything I could think of to get a usable amount of nutmeg to come out of this container and NO DICE. Completely useless, and then I read that Mccormack KNEW that this was a problem????? I will not buy any more Mccormick products.

This 1.1 oz nutmeg container is unopenable. I've tried various methods, people with strong grips, and pliers. it ain't opening. poking holes in the paper doesn't work. I guess a refund is the only way to go. Too bad.

We're sorry to hear that you were unable to twist and remove the cap on your bottle of McCormick® Ground Nutmeg. This will sometimes happen to a spice/herb bottle when too much heat is applied at the time the cap is applied. We are aware of this issue and adjustments have been made to fix this. The glue from the safety seal under the lid melts onto the threads of the bottle and 'glues' the lid fast. To remove, carefully wrap a hot, wet paper towel around the spice bottle cap for 5-10 minutes. The heat from the paper towel should loosen the adhesive and allow you to twist off the cap. In the middle of preparing a cake batter, I tried to open a new jar of Mc nutmeg but couldn't. I wasn't sure if it unscrewed, which I thought it should, or if the top lifted off, so I checked your website and learned that this is an ongoing problem. I needed the nutmeg for the recipe, so I gently used a pair of channel lock pliers and unscrewed the lid instantly. Okay, I admit that I don't usually have pliers among my baking supplies, but they worked. Maybe this will help someone else caught in the "unscrewable" bind. My rating is for the product, NOT the jar. Gotta go check the oven.

I have purchased several small bottles with flip top covers. However I can not open the lip to remove the safety cover. Plus if I wanted to put 1/2 tsp of a spice this is not possible. I only wish I had not purchased your spices. I am going to try to take them back and purchase a different company with the ability to open the cover. Elaine. My rating would be a zero. There are no directions to open these small flip top jar

I always use McCormick pure vanilla extract for my baking. The only problem I have is with the bottle being dark brown. I can never tell how much vanilla is left in the bottle even holding it up to the light doesn't help.

Please keep in mind that when first opened, it is not unusual for an extract to have a strong smell. Extracts are intended to be used with other ingredients. Once the extract is added to a recipe, any strong aroma/taste should be minimal. Oven heat and baking time will dissipate the alcohol flavor profile of the extract and will allow the extract flavor to bloom and enhance your recipe. ~JM

I couldn't get the lid off to remove the seal. After finding a YouTube video about this problem I used a water pump pliers to take off the lid. This happened with two separate spices, nutmeg and caraway. You guys should start selling water pump pliers, it could be a new income stream. Even so, the spices themselves are good.

I usually get my vanilla from Mexico, but ran out and needed more, so I purchased a bottle of McCormick. YUCK YUCK YUCK. It doesn't smell delicious, looks watered down and really has no flavor.
