Book Synopsis

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

My Name Is Red is a historical novel with a detective plot--a kaleidoscopic journey through the borderlands between art, religion, love, sex, and power.

The Sultan has commissioned the most renowned artists in the empire to create a magnificent book celebrating the glories of his reign. Their task: to illuminate the work European style. But because figurative art can be considered offensive to Islam, the project quickly becomes a dangerous proposition. The ruling elite must not learn of the book's scope or nature--and panic spreads when one of the miniaturists disappears. The only clue to solving the mystery--perhaps even a murder--lies hidden within the unfinished illustrations.

Review Quotes

La crítica ha dicho...
«Una intriga singular, suntuosa, de largo aliento.»
John Updike, The New Yorker

The Independent

New Statesman

«Iluminadora...
The Economist

The Observer

«Impresionante... Exquisita... Absorbente.»
The New York Times Book Review
