bad chemical smell
I wanted to like them as they appear cushy but unfortunately, these socks arrived with a chemical smell that I could not tolerate at all. I don't know if something spilled on them or if it is something in the m aterial but even after trying to wash them the smell would not come out and there is no way I want to put these on my son's feet.

Horrific shedding
The socks are soft and comfortable. Also feel oddly "fragile," which is not a word I've ever associated w/ socks. I have really severe heel cracks, and I'm probably harder on socks than most. Still, I have not never seen socks that "shed" this much. I walk around in just socks in my office, and, after a few wks, I noticed that the carpet in certain areas looked in explicably dark and almost black. I couldn't figure out why, until I remembered I had purchased these socks around the same time. I used my pet-hair vacuum on the carpet and, lo and behold, it pulled out a large amount of black fibers; I assume this was from these socks, since it's been months (if not over a yr) since I last purchased socks. It's disappointing (esp for a sock that's largely made of synthetic fibers).

These socks are thick and comfortable as heck. I think they are better for fall/winter months because they keep feet warm. They do have a toe seem that my son doesn't like but that means he won't steal my socks.
