Rugged boot, awkward fit.
TLDR: Great boot, with all the features as I expected them for the price. The sizing is an awkward combo of running true to size or slightly small in terms of length, and running very large for width. These are my first mucks, so no idea if that’s normal. More info: I wear a 10 or 10.5 depending on the boots. Since there’s no half sizes, I tried the 10 and 11. At first, 10 felt too short as I could feel the end touching my toe, which usually bothers me. Upon a closer look, though, I was feeling the neoprene at the end which feels set back slightly from the steel toe. So, my toe wasn’t actually hitting the end of the boot. Contrary to the toe issue, the boot feels a little loose in the middle of my foot and heel. My foot is a medium to narrow width, but I don’t usually have width problems in medium/regular width Chelsea boots (for reference, I wear a red wing classic Chelsea leather boot that fits like a dream). The amount of slip or looseness kind of feels like a slightly exaggerated version of the slip or heel lift in a cowboy boot. I felt I could put up with the slip and the neoprene at the toe, so I kept the 10. The 11 was way too sloppy a fit. I’m curious about the fit of a 9, but I think my toe would definitely be hitting the end. After a couple days of working outside, I can say I’m happy with it overall. They fit comfortably except for if I wear the thinnest of socks, which makes the boots too loose. The toe issue ended up not being a problem, with either the neoprene stretching a little or my feet getting desensitized to it. I put maybe 10k steps on them the first day, and my feet had no problems. I live in a very warm climate, and my feet stayed comfortably cool without excessive sweating. The build seems extremely rugged, and I’m impressed with it. They’re definitely weighty boots, but not overly heavy if you’re used to steel toes and chunky boots. Aesthetically, they’re fine and fairly low-key. Safety boots can look goofy but I like that these are proportioned nicely and there’s no yellow stripes or something. The wide opening catches a lot of debris if you’re wearing shorts or your pants aren’t down over them. I had a lot of cut grass and straw in them after a day. But this is outweighed for me by the convenience of slipping them on hands free. If I need to do a lot of dusty/grassy stuff I’ll just wear boot leg pants. I’d recommend these, especially to someone who doesn’t have a very narrow foot at the top of the length range for their size. Deducting a star because I wish there was a narrower option, and/or half sizes.
