The desk is huge and very sturdy. It took my son and I about 45 mins to build. He did most of it but needed me to hold the wood shelves in place while he screwed in. The desk is very heavy which shows good quality.

I absolutely love this desk! Took a little over 30 minutes to assemble but was pretty easy especially since I'm use to putting things together. I only wish the top portion of the table came w/sealant (polyurethane) on it because of the raw wood material, its bumpy to write on. The castor wheels do not move/roll which was what I wanted. Overall happy w/the purchase & holds up very well against two very strong toddlers who have climbed & jumped on it.

This is a fairly nice desk, and will serve our purpose well. However, it's worth noting that the wheels are for show only; the desk does not roll. The desktop is VERY easily scratched, so don't expect it to stay pristine with any amount of use. Overall, I am happy, but I think the price is a little high for the quality received.

Beautiful desk that I was able to assemble by myself. There are a couple screws that require you to physically pull the parts together in order to start the threading. Wheels are not functional. Only additions I would like is a keyboard tray and maybe an included drawer of some kind. I did find some nice matching wooden boxes to store desk accessories on the shelves.

The desks are great very sturdy and stylish. I ordered two for side by side use and am a little disappointed because the desk top measures 60" while the caster feet measure slightly wider (not mentioned in the description) and are static (they do not swivel) so side side there is a gap between the tops.

Nice desk, but heavy!

This Desk very nice quality. The wood is solid, and the metal is heavy. The only problem is in the box, it is very heavy. It was cumbersome to get inside, and assemble without help. I should mention, that I received this desk for free, in exchange for a review. It was also somewhat complicated to assemble, However, if you follow the instructions, it is manageable. This desk has a very large surface area, which is great if you need it. It also has wide storage shelves, and the chair opening is wide enough for a nice, comfy chair. The major complaint I have with the stuff now that it is assembled, is that the wheels don't actually turn. It is a stationary desk. The wheels are just for show, and aren't actually even wheels, third just part of the leg of the desk. I am also concerned about moving this piece, since again it is quite large, and quite heavy.

I received a free sample of this desk for review. First of all I was very impressed how well everything was packaged and that every part arrived in perfect condition. Assembly instructions were very simple and easy to follow, but I made the mistake of trying to put it together myself, and it would have been very helpful to have a second person to hold things in place while I tied the screws. There is one screw that despite my efforts I was not able to fasten so my desk stands minus one screw. Once put together this piece of furniture is solid. My children did the river dance on top of it and it did not move or shake (despite the missing screw). The wheels are decorative only and do not turn, which is probably wise for safety reasons. I love the extra storage underneath. Overall I am very impressive with the quality and sturdiness of this product, not to mention the wood they used is stunningly beautiful. You will not be disappointed.

I received this desk free in exchange for writing an honest review. When I received this desk it was quite heavy so the UPS guy brought it in for me. This desk comes in a large box so you have to have a big area to put the desk together in. This desk can be put together by one person but it would be helpful to have two when it comes to holding pieces together and screwing the screws in. The desk is mostly made out of three would pieces and the rest is made out of metal. The wheels on the desk are fixed and don't turn when wanting to move the desk around. You have to physically pick up the desk with two people. When the desk is fully assembled it is quite sturdy and doesn't move around. It has a nice large area on top for a computer and any paperwork that you might be working on. But one thing that you need to keep in mind when purchasing this desk is that all three pieces of wood which includes the top main portion of the desk are grooved. You can't tell at first that it is grooved because the grooves are hidden in the grain of the wood. This makes it quite hard for you to write on a piece of paper directly on the desk. If you wish to accomplish this you will need to purchase a thick hard plastic to put on top or tempered glass. This could also be done just writing on a notepad as well. Once the desk is fully constructed the dimension are as follows: length 60inches, width 28inches and 30inches in height. The desk is a dark wood and nice in color. Only one Allen wrench was supplied as the tool to put the desk together but I used an Allen bit with a small drill to put it together. Pros: Large desk, sturdy, nice grain look to the wood, good storage area for printers. Cons: Little heavy to lift by one's self, instructions weren't clear, and wood is not a completely flat surface. Overall the desk is quite nice and very appealing.

Makes a great gaming center

I was asked to evaluate this piece and give my feedback, and I was pleased that the piece was one that could fit in with such a variety of tastes in furnishings. With this desk having a lot of metal accents and framework to it, I fully expected it to be heavy. I decided to try to assemble it on my own to see if a female consumer could do it alone. I could have done it but decided to call in the help of my husband. This really is a two-person job. My main concern is that I expected to see a heavy, metal piece of furniture have heavier screws or brackets. When I see metal, I think durable. I cannot put anything heavy on the shelves because I wouldn't trust the screws. Otherwise , I love the vintage look, especially the wheels (although they look like they roll, they don't). We have it set up as a gaming center. It looks really nice with a TV sitting on it, and we have the console on one of the open shelves with the controllers and such in baskets on the other shelves, so it is very functional as a gaming/entertainment center.

LOVE THIS DESK!

Love this Desk! I should mention that I received a free sample to use for this review. It fits perfectly in my foyer. CONSTRUCTION: It is very well made. Heavy! It`s probably about 100 pounds and it is flat packed. You might need help getting it in the door. It sat in my foyer for a few days before I tackled putting it together. I was home alone and decided it was time. It took about an hour. The only part I couldn`t do by myself was the last step of the wood shelves. APPEARANCE: It has a very clean feel with a very upscale vibe. I like the wheels, they don`t move and that is definitely a plus with children. I think the wood color is a little bit darker than the photo online. Holds my art books, mail tray, change tray and a vase of flowers. I went and bought some pretty boxes to put on the shelves to hold cold weather hats and mittens. I also have the perfect stool to scoot in the middle. PROS: Well made, solid, beautiful, versatile. CONS: Heavy, a little difficult to put together by oneself. Only an Allen Wrench and small screws. Overall a great desk!

Excellent home office desk

My family is really enjoying this new desk! I should mention that I got it free in exchange for my honest review. This desk comes in a large box that is difficult to lift so we had to slide it into the house. So that being said, this is a very sturdy desk with metal construction and a heavy "wooden top". We use this every day for home budget stuff and homeschool. My only complaint is that you need something to write on since the top is hand scribed. Eventually it would be nice to get a glass top. Putting it together was easy. No special tools required. It was all metal to metal attachment, so no screwing into the wood. I also had some issues when first receiving the desk, but the customer service was great and everything was taken care of speedily. I will say this desk is very large so make sure you have plenty of room for it.

I received a sample of this product in exchange for my honest opinion. When the desk arrived the box was very heavy. I needed help bringing it into the house to assemble it. Once opened though, I could smell the wood and see that the product was made out of sturdy material. I appreciated the fact that all the tools were included. The instructions were easy to follow. The one part I struggled with was trying to put on the support beam for the bottom shelf. It took multiple tries and eventually flipping the desk right side up helped with the installation. The desk is not only sturdy but looks nice with the real engrained wood and black metal shelves. Just to note, the wheels on the bottom of the desk are for decorations only. Not too much of a big deal, but be aware it is not an easy desk to move.

Unique, solid desk

I received this desk for free in exchange for my honest feedback. All in all, once you get it put together, it`s a nice looking desk, and is solid and heavy. I really like that it`s unique looking, it almost has a bit of a steampunk feel, it could be an accent piece with a lot of different styles of decor. I`ve only had it for about a week or so now, so we`ll see how it holds up, but it seems like a very solid piece. So, the negatives: it`s kind of a pain to assemble. A lot of it has to do with the weight of it - this is a pretty heavy piece of furniture - even the box it comes in is very large, it weighs nearly 100 lbs. So for me, just maneuvering it while assembling was a bit challenging, and the screws are very tiny, so be careful not to lose any :-) It might be easier to build it with a friend or someone to help out. Also, when I looked online and saw the pricetag of over $400 for this, I was a bit surprised, that seems somewhat high for a desk like this. Since I received this for free, I`m certainly not complaining, but honestly, I think there are desks on the market that are very nice for less money. I`m not sure I would have spent that much money for this.

Very Sturdy Writing Desk!!!

The "Merida Mixed Media Writing Desk" is a very sturdy desk. The desk top color and frame is dark in color but works well with my front room style. No drawers are attached but this allows you to create your own style with baskets and organizers. The shelving is very roomy. Please note the decorative wheels are stationary. Assembly took a little over an hour. There were a few bent connecting brackets. My husband was able to correct them with no problem and did not affect the stability of the finished desk. Because it needs to be assembled upside down, you will need a second pair of hands to right it when done. Overall, this is a great writing desk. It is pricey so I'd suggest to wait for a sale. I should mention that I was sent a free sample for this review.

Beautiful Piece of Furniture

Shanna G - 8 years ago
I recently received this desk, and, overall, I love it. It's a nice, sturdy piece of furniture that fits my style and space well. CONSTRUCTION: I was really impressed with the construction of this desk. It's very heavy, but solid. No particle board and flimsy pieces of metal. APPEARANCE: I like the "rustic" look, so this desk fit my style perfectly. I love the handscraped wood top and the wrought-iron appearance of the metal pieces. I liked the added detail of having the fixed wheels (though they don't move). My one complaint with the appearance is that when the box was delivered, it had a huge gouge in it, and the top of the desk actually had a large scratch in it (see picture). I don't think this was an issue with the desk or Target, however. I blame the shipping company for that one. The other thing that I noticed is that while the handscraped wood top is beautiful, it's far from being smooth. This means that you would have to get some kind of plastic cover or just put something under whatever you're trying to write on. ASSEMBLY: The assembly was a little more difficult that I imagined, and the instructions were not very clear. It's a two-person job because most of the parts need to be held in place while being attached. Overall, PROS: beautiful and solid piece of furniture, ideal size (not too big or too small), plenty of shelf space for storage. CONS: somewhat difficult to assemble

Need to start by saying the wheels do not turn, they are fake, not a deal breaker, just be prepared that you can't roll it around. Assembly is fairly easy. Take care with the little shelves that are underneath the desk. They are attached to the metal frame with very small screws. Directions tell you to install them with the desk upside down. It's a tight fit, so if you have any stress along with gravity, it will pull the shelf off of the screws and with soft particle board, they won't hold anymore. I filled the holes with wood glue and reattached it after I was done. If you have trouble lining up the holes on the shelf frame with the desk legs, try reversing the shelf. Do yourself a favor, install the shelves with the desk right side up. It looks nice, will see if it holds up.
