Midland MXT500 MicroMobile® GMRS 50-Watt Two-Way Radio - MXT500

I am new to radio and this radio made things easier to get talking to people. Plus I plan on getting the ammo can box from Midland to have a nice portable unit.

Wattage is only at 37 on a dummy load very low for a 50 watt radio

I am totally amazed at the long range of these radios. I now have 3 MXT500 radios; 1 in my truck, 1 in my side-by-side, and 1 in my 5th wheel RV. When boondocking in the San Rafael swell in central Utah where there is no cell coverage, while out on a trail ride over 20 miles from my RV, I was able to have clear communication between my side-by-side and my RV. Now my friends who go camping with us are planning on installing the same radios in their rigs.

Pretty simple install. Turns on, turns off, able to speak and listen. Not sure what else to expect as this is my first one, but there is positive improved difference in the antenna that comes with it and the 6db one.

Ive been testing its features and it has yet to dissapoint. Everything is as advertised. All i need to do is test its ip66 rating, im going to throw it in my pool this afternoon :)

This is a high quality radio, very clear crisp audio, great booming carrier. So easy to program in repeaters.

Haven't had the radio very long but works as expected. Midland makes a great product. Everything was easy to hook up. The radio was also very easy to operate.

Great receiver! Apparently I've been talking to a guy 8 hours away from me without the repeater. Not sure how or why but its happening!

I like the radio. It has good range and the communication clarity is great. I also like the large clear display. Be aware that the quick disconnect bracket that is shown in the product photo’s, instruction manual and on the box does not come with the radio. The actual bracket included is just a standard u bracket.

This radio is simple to use and is just the ticket for a basic base station setup. The family started using it immediately after hooking it up.

I bought this radio thinking it was going to be more heavy-duty quality because the price point Midland has it at. I was disappointed. It isn't as heavy-duty as you would expect. One issue I see happening is the the microphone cord will deteriorate and crumble at some point soon. Also case of radio seems like it could crack if something were to fall on it. Not sure if it's made of die-cast or whatever it is but just seems low quality. The idea of this radio is great and the cosmetic design is actually nice. If this was built to LMR Mil-spec ratings and quality it would be worth the price. Even Midland C.B. radios are made of steel and better quality. Also as far as function, it works great as far as I can tell, no issues there. I do believe they should update the firmware to allow "D.I.Y." channels so we can program multiple repeats of repeater frequencies with different tones. In my area we have 30 (and growing) GMRS repeaters including one of my own on a commercial radio site. So long story short, lower your price to a more realistic price and update firmware to allow more repeater channels.
