Description
The SWA-400 subwoofer amplifier delivers clean, solid power required to drive medium to large sized subwoofer speakers. Its compact 1U design is compatible with many other popular electronic devices and different styles of multimedia gear. The SWA-400 is engineered to provide high fidelity bass amplification and is tailored for home audio and home theater audio systems. User defined presets give you complete control over crossover frequency, as well as slope, phase, and low-cut. Recall your presets for the type of listening you are doing. Short circuit and thermal protection circuits are built-in. While deep, hard hitting bass is fun and a little annoying to the neighbors, a good subwoofer system also improves your main speaker's fidelity. By driving a separate subwoofer system, your left and right speakers are free to articulate dialog and subtle audio accents while the explosions are hitting you in the chest. This subwoofer amp is an ideal match to our passive in-wall subwoofers. The SWA-400 is stable down to 4 ohms, so it will easily drive one or two subs. The front panel backlit LCD screen will go dark after 2 minutes with no adjustments. Automated power management includes audio trigger and 12V triggers that will shut down and turn on the amp as you need it.

The features are well thought out with the crossover settings quite intuitive. I like that this amplifier can handle a four ohm load as I use two 8 ohm subs in parallel. As a professional user I would like to see XLR inputs along with the unbalanced RCA connections. Otherwise, a decent compact unit.

This amp puts out a high frequency noise. It is however a good amp and does truly put out 400 watts RMS, tested with an oscilloscope and is very cheap for its' power. I had to return it though, I couldn't deal with the noise it added to the signal.

I decided to use this amp with the monolith M-IWSUB82 it is a great paring thus far. The amp is NOT 2 ohm stable and will instantly go into protection mode and a red LED will blink inside the unit. If you have this happen grab your meter and check the speaker resistance. The unit must be wired to 4ohm loads or higher, it runs very cool and the rack mount ears are solid mounting. The settings are a bit strange but allow multiple configurations which is a nice touch. Once you get used to scrolling the menu life becomes easier. I do not have the HUM as other reviews have stated. The volume control is in 3db steps yes but if your receiver has level settings it's very easy to make smaller adjustments as needed. My experience once adjusted properly you will only be adjusting your volume from the source not on each amp. Great product as usual from Monoprice.

Exactly what I needed to power my dual homemade subs with 12" Dayton Audio drivers. The shallow footprint fits my cabinet perfectly and the flexible crossover settings allow me to integrate them seamlessly with my Mackie HR824Mk2 monitors. Since the Mackies have bass extension down to 37 Hz, I really only need the subs to reinforce the bottom octave (20-40 Hz). The 20 Hz high-pass filter and 60 Hz low-pass filter set at 48 db/octave work great for this purpose. The lack of a continuous volume knob that one reviewer griped about doesn't bother me, as 3 dB is the smallest increment that most humans can detect. I appreciate not having to fuss with finer settings. Fewer choices lead to more positive decisions! I also have not had any ground loop problems or transformer hum problems, which was a problem with a Dayton sub amp that I returned. The bottom line is that this is a great little unit and I recommend it!

This product arrived and from the moment it was connected to my in-wall sub there has been a loud low buzz/hum. I connected it to a ground loop eliminator without fixing the problem. Basically, the amp is useless.

Produced an annoying low volume buzzing noise all the time. Traded for three different amps and all had it. I just hooked up a speaker and plugged it into an outlet all by itself. So I know for sure none of my equipment causing the noise.
Junk, doesn’t do a thing I see led on the circuit board blink so probably some useless protection that kicked in.

Product emits 65 dB of noise. I used a ground lifter plug and product still emits the same level of noise. I returned the product and was sent another that is exactly the same. This is not suitable for home use.

Great performance and very happy...I have a low depth rack and this units just fits so initially this was the deciding factor..and then once installed I must say I am very happy with the way it performs..I am driving a soundstream 12" Sub and this pushes it effortlessly without getting hot...my setup is outdoor covered patio so I was worried about heating in the summer (it gets over 100 deg on some days in summer here)

This thing makes a racket - I have to tun it off at lower sound levels or I cant hear anything above the background noise it creates. Despite reporting this, I have not had a response from Monoprice regarding this issue. Hoping to change this review but I may just have to return the unit.
