Book Synopsis

"Easy, evocative.... The useful spells and rituals of Mood Magick are designed to help people improve their overall mental health." --Foreword Reviews

Discover a deeper connection with the earth, yourself, and the life you want with this witchy wellness guide--from the author of I Don't Want to Be an Empath Anymore.

There is a prevalence of helplessness, hopelessness, and disconnection in the world right now. Certainty has fallen away, and it's unclear what tomorrow will bring. Modern technology has caused us to feel isolated, and more removed from nature than ever before. As a result, our mental health suffers. While many find solace in the tried-and-true methods of mental health management, these unprecedented times may call for an extra bit of magick to achieve the stability and healing we deserve. If you seek answers off the beaten path, this book may just be the soothing balm your soul needs.

Chock-full of simple rituals and spells rooted in the elements, Mood Magick will help you navigate an ever-changing world with more ease and confidence. By employing the basic tenets of witchcraft--which rely heavily on connecting with nature--this unique guide will help you tap into your own self-knowledge and the power of your moods, bringing clarity and peace amidst the chaos of modern life.

Whether you identify as a witch, are "witch curious," or simply seeking ways to connect more deeply with nature--Mood Magick will help you create a sense of profound peace and the ability to ride the unpredictable waves of your moods and life with confidence.

Review Quotes

"North (I Don't Want To Be an Empath Anymore!) informs her intelligent writing on the healing power of witchcraft on mental health by her own experience with managing bipolar disorder and trauma. Her deceptively simple spells focus on the elementals of air, water, fire, and earth as a way of reconnecting and grounding to the physical plane as an antidote to the destabilizing excess energy and overstimulation of the modern world. Each section uses the attributes and polarities of the elementals to create practices that either help release negative patterns or affirm positive intentions for a variety of issues and self-care. Emphasizing that witchcraft and spell work is not a substitute for medical supervision, therapy, or medication, North still makes a compelling case for applying magical principles and practice to help heal a range of mental and emotional problems such as anxiety, depression, or toxic relationships. VERDICT: Filled with cogent observations, each spell becomes a self-supporting message that validates the difficulty of living with mental health challenges yet provides structure for self-awareness, restores connection to the body, and engenders mood alchemy."
--Library Journal (starred review)-- "Library Journal"

"Ora North's Mood Magick introduces easy, evocative exercises and spells for dealing with the stress and anxiety of modern life. Defining witches as those who work with the energies of nature to create change, this book discusses mental health in brief before its introduction to the four elements: fire, water, earth, and air. This work is a strong foundation for the rest of the book, which starts with lessons on grounding (the process of connecting one's personal energy to the energy of the earth) and setting intentions (focusing on personal needs, rather than outside expectations) .... The book's spells for peace and healing, for creating stability and safety, and for finding inspiration and passion are also placed within easy reach--though they are not designed to create instant results: instead, they are about changing one's behaviors through self-awareness and repeated practice. Finally, instructions for writing one's own spells are given; they lay out all the information needed for practitioners to create their personalized magick. The useful spells and rituals of Mood Magick are designed to help people improve their overall mental health."

"Ora North has done it again--like her last book, I Don't Want to Be an Empath Anymore, Mood Magick is an instant classic. It's grounded, accessible, kind, and written for the spirit of the times--how to take care of ourselves in a world that often overwhelms us with information, sensory input, and unprecedented responsibilities for our survival. Anyone can benefit from integrating these rituals and practices into their everyday lives."
--Arden Leigh, creator of The Re-Patterning Project, and frontwoman of Arden & the Wolves--Arden Leigh

"Ora North's beautifully written book, Mood Magick, is a unique compendium of spells and rituals for novice and advanced magickal practitioners. I'm grateful North's book is geared to readers with mental health challenges, especially since I have bipolar disorder. Yet, Mood Magick benefits anyone interested in exploring simple, powerful, elemental magick. North inspires one to reengage with life through thoughtfully designed witchcraft ranging from grounding and healing to creativity and passion. Mood Magick is a brilliant, innovative work!"
--Dyane Harwood, author of Birth of a New Brain--Dyane Harwood

"We are living through one of the most pivotal chapters in the more-than-human story. Now, more than ever, we need practices and poetry that remind us that magick is not only real, but the very medicine necessary for the disconnection that ails us. Ora North eloquently offers medicinal 'mood' magick as an accessible and timely remedy to many of the common ills of modernity, and, to that end, this book is absolutely an essential read."
--Danielle Dulsky, author of The Holy Wild, Seasons of Moon and Flame, and The Sacred Hags Oracle--Danielle Dulsky

"YES! Finally, a book on magic that implements the most important aspect of our existence: the human body and everything that comes with that. I believe this is the one and only way to being successful in life, and Ora did an extraordinary job in writing this amazing book: clear, hands-on, and magical. A must-have!"
--Bara Cerna/Soviet Mercedes, money witch, demon whisperer, and international dominatrix--Bara Cerna/Soviet Mercedes

About the Author

Ora North is a spiritual teacher, witch, and mental health advocate. While very involved in the spiritual community, North does not subscribe to the "love and light" or "good vibes only" mentality that can often whitewash or bypass the very real struggles of the marginalized. Because of this, her focus is on shadow work, and promoting the acceptance and validation of all of our feelings--not just the positive ones--as tools for growth. She is author of I Don't Want to Be an Empath Anymore.
