Review Quotes

"Will create a curiosity about traditions that are less familiar to some readers, but will also generate joy and connection for children who know the practices. A delightful read that teaches students about Ramadan and emphasizes the diversity in the Islamic world. Definitely a go-to for librarians and teachers." -- School Library Journal (starred review)

"Moon celebrates with Muslims of different cultures, skin tones, ages, body types, and abilities actively engaged in evening activities of Ramadan, including good deeds and charity. Women are depicted with and without hijab, in various styles including niqab, while young girls are not portrayed wearing headscarves. Inviting... Upbeat... Sweet." -- Kirkus Reviews

"Detailed, colorful. The diversity of the Muslim population is evident in the illustrations, making this a welcome addition to shelves of books about celebrations." -- Booklist

"What a stunning debut book from Natasha Khan Kazi! Kazi's lines are lyrical, and as magical as the moon art she has created...The art is dreamy and has hues like the purple veil of twilight that will encourage readers to linger over the pages. I loved how the Moon looks on Earth, and each page travels to a different and beautiful part of the world celebrating Ramadan. This story felt like a cozy hug from the Moon! For teachers, this book is a must-have. Muslim children will feel pride to see themselves reflected back in these stunning pages." -- Reem Faruqi, author of Unsettled and Golden Girl

Moon's Ramadan is unique in that it is such an easy and instructive read for all ages, young and adults. The author takes a very interesting topic, that of Ramadan and how it is related to the Moon, and provides a fact and fun filled description. Since Ramadan is a global event, this book takes you around the world during the month of Ramadan. For the youth, it is very informative and inspirational. For adults, it is a wonderful tool to teach the youth and share stories. In reading this book, I found myself reliving my days of youth while celebrating Ramadan. The author is not only exceptionally talented with her words and description but is also a skilled illustrator. The illustrations in the book make it truly exceptional and a pleasure to read. This book would also be very useful for people who do not celebrate Ramadan but are interested to learn about Ramadan. The book is authentic and filled with interesting fact throughout. I would recommend this book to any person with the slightest interest in Ramadan or children's books.

A GREAT way for all children to learn a bout Ramadan whether they celebrate at home or not. I read it to my students, many of whom had heard of Ramadan but didn’t know much about it. They really enjoyed the scenes from countries all over they world, the message of peace and kindness, and I love that there’s a glossary in the back to define terms that are specific to the culture/occasion, as well as explanations of some of the traditions. Hooray for representation!

Moon's Ramadan was such a fun read as it provides such a fresh modern take on Ramadan by telling the story from the Moon's perspective! This book takes you through different parts of the world as Muslims open and break their fast all the way to Eid celebrations. There's something in there to learn about every country for everyone, young and adults alike! I loved learned about the names of the different moon phases :) The illustrations show so much detail from each country, you can really tell that research was done behind each scene. It also helped that the color theme is my favorite color purple! I gifted this book to friends from different backgrounds/beliefs and they enjoyed learning about Ramadan as well! It is definitely a great add to any kid's (or adult's) book collection! Ramadan Kareem!!

I read to my kids all the time and there are a certain number of books that I keep coming back to either because of the humor, the pictures, the story, or the knowledge imparted by the author. This book is fun to read for adults and has an amazing amount of information written in a way a K-3rd would certainly understand. I'm impressed with the authors research based story (as evidence by the back matter). A great book for the month of Ramadaan!
