Description

About the Book

Between training the new town garda and trying to set a wedding date with her fiancâe, Macdara Flannery, Siobhâan O'Sullivan is feeling a bit overwhelmed. She's looking forward to visiting the new bookshop and curling up with an exciting novel--only to discover the shelves contain nothing but Literature with a capital L. The owner not only refuses to stock romances, mysteries, and science fiction, but won't even let customers enter his store unless they can quote James Joyce or Sean Hennessey. Despite the owner deliberately limiting his clientele, he's hosting a reading and autographing event featuring up and coming Irish writers who will be taking up residency in Kilbane for a month. Among them is indie author Deirdre Walsh, who spends more time complaining about the unfairness of the publishing industry and megastar bestsellers instead of her own creative works, causing a heated debate among the writers. She seems to have a particular distaste for the novels of Nessa Lamb. Then Deirdre's body is found the next day in the back of the store--with pages torn from Nessa's books stuffed in her mouth. Now, Siobhâan must uncover which of Kilbane's literary guests took Deirdre's criticisms so personally they'd engage in foul play...

Book Synopsis

"Queen of the cozy police procedural (Publishers Weekly)," USA Today bestselling author Carlene O'Connor's seventh Irish Village Mystery brings a whodunit that tests even Garda Siobhán O'Sullivan, as the grand opening of a new bookstore in County Cork, Ireland's village of Kilbane ends up closing the chapter on an author's life...

Between training the new town garda and trying to set a wedding date with her fiancé, Macdara Flannery, Siobhán is feeling a bit overwhelmed. But an author event at the new bookstore featuring Irish writers taking up residency in Kilbane offers a welcome distraction.

One author, Deirdre Walsh, spends more time complaining about the unfairness of the publishing industry and megastar bestselling authors like Nessa Lamb instead of her own body of work. After the evening ends in a battle of words, Deirdre's body is found the next day in the back of the store--with pages torn from Nessa's books stuffed in her mouth. Now, Siobhán must uncover which of Kilbane's literary guests took Deirdre's criticisms so personally they engaged in foul play...

I'll be on the look out for the next one

Another intriguing start to a story. You do know that the Garda will have joined all the dots by the end of the novel, but it certainly took some time. I love books and book shops so that was definitely in the story's favour.. Then there were some interesting facts to discover along the way: most enjoyable. I also appreciated the plot being directly linked to the murder mystery, it wasn't just a back drop to the story. Once again, patience and enquiring minds eventually resulted in the mystery being solved. I particularly enjoyed the relationships amongst the main characters. The complex nature of family is evident throughout and yet this dimension moved along most satisfactorily in this episode. I will be on the look out for the next one. With thanks to #Netgalley, Kensington Books and the author for my advanced reader copy.
