Miss Dupre is a Dear
4 out of 5 stars

Honestly, this book was an 1880s season of The Bachelorette. However, our heroine, Willow, did not ask to participate, but rather cooperated with her family's plan out of respect for them. Not intending to marry, she was surprised with the situation, yet graciously acquiesced. Willow was beautiful, sweet, and smart, and had the desire to continue the success of her family's business. The young men were specifically chosen for this contest, and each personality was defined. As the book continued, it became more and more entertaining. There were a few behind-the-scenes mysteries to be solved, and plenty of angst. It was also quite illuminating how the New York's wealthy set were always in the newspaper, for good or for bad. It seemed strange that the entire city would want to read about the balls, dinners, and contests of the wealthy, but that's what was published. I loved Willow, and I enjoyed the book more and more as I read, so I recommend it. Those who enjoy reading about the New York Four Hundred in the 1880s will enjoy this book. I especially recommend this to fans of Jen Turano's novels. I received a copy of this book from the publisher, Bethany House, for review purposes. The thoughts expressed here are my own.
Regency Romance

My Dear Miss Dupre by Grace Hitchcock is the first book in her American Royalty series. Willow Dupre has six months to choose a husband from the thirty suitors competing for her hand. Can she find true love and someone to help run her father’s sugar refinery within that time frame? If not, her cousin will sell his shares to the competition. This story started out with so much potential. Willow wanted what was best for the family business and was willing to go along with her parents’ wishes even though she wasn’t comfortable with the competition. There were things that the author put in the story that you know would have never happened in that time period; which kind of ruined the book for me. The story ended too fast and we were not part of the wrapping up of all the loose ends. They were just finished. We were told about them in a couple of sentences. All in all I don’t think the story lived up to the hype. I received this book from the publisher for my honest review.
The Husband Hunt!

Imagine, unbeknownst to you, your parents set up a competition with thirty eligible bachelors to win your hand in marriage. Willow Dupré is shocked to find out that is what her parents have done—and marry one of them in six months’ time. It is the bachelorette meets 1882 high society, with some crazy twists! Unusual for a female at that time, Willow has helped her father run their profitable sugar company, with the idea she would be in charge someday. But his serious health condition is forcing him to retire in six months, and the board of directors refuses to work with a woman. If Willow doesn’t have a husband by then, they will lose the company. How can she get to know any of them well enough to marry? She discovers some of the men in the competition are spies to get newspaper stories, others are there to destroy Willow and her family. Because of that, she finds herself in dangerous situations. How can she tell who is trustworthy? Additionally, the stress of the competition causes some of the men to crack and behave badly. Others truly do love Willow, but she doesn’t feel the same, and is put in the position of breaking their hearts. This was a good read, with lots of excitement, along with surprising danger and suspense. The author took the bachelorette subject, made it fresh, not predictable, and kept you wondering how it would turn out. It is a clean story with a Christian viewpoint. I recommend this 5-star book to those who enjoy romantic tales with a twist! Bethany House Publishing has provided Tickmenot with a complimentary copy of, My Dear Dupré, for the purpose of review.

What a delightful story bringing modern day concepts into the Gilded Age. Miss Willow Durpre finds herself in need of a husband before the board of her father's sugar company will allow her to continue being at the helm. So her parents set up a competition amongst the most eligible bachelors around to win her hand. The competition is set up like the TV show The Bachelor, with all the men vying for Willow's attention and to get to know her, group and individual outings, and crowns instead of roses. It's really well written, and holds true to the propriety of the time, while pushing the envelope for something so outlandish. This story will make you smile and laugh. It's a completely enjoyable read! I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
