Q: can you add a second one to place in a different room to work off the first extender and router?

submitted by sabellius - 4 years ago
  • A: Hi, sabellius! Regarding your question about the Netgear AC1900 WiFi Range Extender Essential Edition - White (EX6400): Yes, you can connect a wifi extender to another wifi extender, but with some caveats. First, avoid connecting the two wifi extenders wirelessly. Secondly, the two devices must not share the same SSID. I personally recommend connecting the extender to the main SSID (Network name) if at all possible. Q: Will this work in extending wifi signal to outdoor security cameras? Some as far as 200+ feet?

submitted by Nonna - 4 years ago
  • A: Hello. You can set this extender up to extend coverage to outdoor areas but the extender must be indoors. You want to install the extender at a half way point between your router and the area that needs coverage.

Q: Will dthis cover a 2000 square-foot house?

submitted by Jenn - 4 years ago
  • A: It depends on walls, signals, piping in the walls, additional interference from hotspots around you, there's no answer to this unless you were to do a walk through in your house to check for vectors of interference.

Solid, Fast, Easy Internet

I have had the Netgear Wifi Mesh Extender for about 2 years now. I had to reconnect it to a new wifi network and I am trying ethernet for the first time through the extender. Setup was fairly simple. App was not connecting to my phone through the Netgear network at first, but I think that was due to my prior connection that was set up. I simply clicked the button on the back, and the button on my router at the same time to link the connections, and set it up within minutes that way. I am in a basement, so my regular wifi connection was a little too weak. I also felt as if the Netgear, due to being in the basement wasn’t giving me the mbps download speed i wanted. I ended up trying out a wired ethernet connection from the Netgear, and the network speed has significantly increased. I’m not sure why I never used an ethernet cord prior but I definitely recommend!

Hard to connect

CJ - 23 days ago

I've tried connecting the device and 90% of the time it doesn't show up in the WiFi section, so I have to unplug let it sit for a few hours then try again to connect. I have done this multiple times once I got it connected and moved it to another location I had to go through the entire process as forementioned, its annoying I can only assume the unit is bad. Once it connected but Said unsecured..wait what? It wouldn't allow me to put in the pw to make the connection secure, so I had unplug it, now it's sitting in the corner of the room til I have patience to deal with it again, but hey thanks for the survey

Thumbs up graphic, would recommend
Could be so much better - 3 months ago, Verified purchaser
Range distance extended is similar to the distance of my Netgear Nighthawk WiFi router. Make sure to locate the extender where full WiFi bars are showing to duplicate the same number of bars. We noticed drop off of one bar on the extension at about the same distance as drop off from the WiFi. Setup is extremely difficult. The quick start instructions that came in the box are worthless. I downloaded the full instructions manual and followed those instructions, which required downloading an app, logging on to two more websites as part of the process, and then troubleshooting when things didn’t work. Took over an hour for two people with a combined 14 years of college and four degrees in the fields of science, engineering, and medicine.

The Netgear AC 1900 allows us to connect three Wi-Fi outdoor cameras that are too far away to independently connect to our main router. The extender has a good strong signal and gives us high resolution and minimal latency when operating the cameras. They recommended.
