Description

About the Book

The only child of a king, Princess Maakah is sent by her father to marry the rebel, David ben Jesse, whom she considers a lowly shepherd from an unremarkable family. Disappointed by those she trusts, she must learn to place her faith in Yahweh, the God who protects David, and allow Him to make this rebel shepherd the king of her heart.

Book Synopsis

"I am such a fan of Mesu Andrews and so grateful for each story she so artfully and masterfully brings to vivid life."--TOSCA LEE, New York Times bestselling author

Princess Maakah of Geshur is duty-bound to create a political alliance for her father through marriage. The cancellation by King Saul of her betrothal to his fourth-born son compels Maakah's father to send her to the rebel David ben Jesse, a shepherd-warrior anointed years earlier as Israel's future king, to propose a marriage between them. Taken aback by stories of David's ferocity and lowly birth, Maakah considers the match a degrading fate but obeys her father's wishes out of duty as her nation's only heir.

To her relief, David rejects the offer of marriage, but circumstances make it impossible for Maakah to return home, and she must stay with David's people until it is safe for her to travel again. Facing prejudice and suspicion from the Israelites, Maakah navigates the delicate balance between her noble heritage and her growing respect for David's faith and leadership. In a land torn by war and divided loyalties, she must choose where her allegiance lies: with her Geshurite people, or with an extraordinary destiny alongside David that beckons her from within.

This gripping second installment of Mesu Andrews' Old Testament biblical series of ancient Israel and King David's brides will appeal to fans of The Chosen, Francine Rivers, Connilyn Cossette, Jill Eileen Smith, and Tessa Afshar.

This is book two in King David’s Brides and even though I had not read the previous one I still found it to be an informative and interesting read. This author is meticulous in her research of history and Biblical knowledge and I found this to be very deep and thought provoking. Maakah is a very strong woman who grows and learns to follow the one and only Yahweh and that’s when the scales fall from her eyes and she begins to see truth as it unfolds. I consider this book to be like taking a long journey and unveiling the people we read of in the Bible but knowing them and understanding more thoroughly. I find it makes me want to delve into the Word even more. I enjoyed the author notes at the beginning and the end and suggest you take time to read them. We did a study of David in our women’s group last year and this follows alongside a lot of what I had learned. You will be pleasantly amazed when you add this one to your must read pile. I received a complimentary copy from CelebrateLit. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.

Reading fictionalized Biblical stories makes real life Bible characters so relatable. I learned a lot about David after my own research. He was a sinner but a forgiven sinner. He did search God for advice on what to do in situations confronting him. Princess Maakah had lots of wisdom but her best was learned after she gave up her false gods and served the true and only God. I loved how she matured over time and realized her worth in God’s eyes. I need to re-read Samuel. I like reading the research Mesu Andrews put into this novel to make it as accurate as possible. I received a copy of this book from the publisher through Celebrate Lit but was not required to write a review.

Maakah’s was a story of heartache and redemption, surrender and endurance in the face of unspeakable betrayal. Though difficult at times, Maakah displays incredible fortitude and resilience on her journey, learning about the danger of misplaced trust and what it really means to be noble versus regal. I liked that the characters were open to learning lessons and being taught. The danger was palpable and really picked up in the final portion of the book, making for an intense ending. I am very curious about the next book in the series, Loyal, and where it will take David’s story.
