Humble Beginnings
Nubian Heritage is the brainchild of two New York street vendors. In 1992, fresh out of college and without jobs, Rich and Nyema embarked on a mission to produce luxurious natural products from traditional African recipes with fair trade ingredients. Today Nubian Heritage offers culturally authentic healing philosophies. Although Nubian Heritage products are no long made in bath tubs, little else has changed; the company still makes its own products, still uses fair trade ingredients and still invests in community commerce.
Heritage
For centuries, African Black Soap has been used in Africa to cleanse and care for the skin. Historical references to Shea Butter, a staple of African pharmacology, date back to the reported Shea Butter caravans of Cleopatra's Egypt. Complementing the ingredients detoxifying properties, our package pattern symbolizes purity and commemorates the strong community identity textiles have in Africa with each community having their own unique designs.

great product, poor packaging
I have been using this product for years, because I love the way it feels. However, I always have to saw the bottle in half, scoop out the lotion, and transfer it to a few smaller jars--because there is no way anything this thick is coming out through a squeeze top. (Yes, I've tried leaving it upside down between uses.) Also, the smell is quite a bit stronger than I need it to be, but at least it's a pleasant smell.

Best body cream I ever tried
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been using this stuff for years. It's a thick cream, not oily, and seems to penetrate perfectly. It smells so good I don't even use aftershave over it. I guarantee you will love this body cream.

I have dry skin and this is my FAVORITE lotion. Thick moisture that lasts. Difficult to use because of bottle. When sold in tube, PERFECT!

Lasting Moisture
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This lotion moisturizes my skin very well. I am happy that it lasts all day. However, it is quite thick as mentioned in a couple of reviews. It does not pour, and shaking to get it to the neck doesn't work. I have to squeeze it out. It is more like a body butter, so for easier access I suggest a jar versus a bottle.

Very Moisturizing
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I gave this product 4 stars because it does maximize moisturizer and gave me healthier looking skin. I took off one star due to the fact that I cannot stand the scent. I am just not a “coco butter” smell kind of girl. The lotion has a nice thick texture but spreads easily. Not so sure about the “detoxifying” claim on the bottle though…there are no details on how the lotion is removing or neutralizing anything. I would prefer that companies stay away from “buzz words” like this.

Smells too sweet
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got a full size of this conditioner in an Influenster VoxBox for my honest review. First off, this is a vegan body lotion, from a black-owned company which is great! Some of the ingredients are certified organic or fair trade, as well. It's rich and nourishing, but unfortunately, I couldn't get over the sweet, too sweet, in fact, fragrance. I would recommend this lotion for lovers of sweet smells but would not purchase it for myself.

Devine Scent
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This lotion smells so good- kind of like a musky coconut/Shea butter. It’s extremely thick and nearly impossible to get out of this type of bottle, which is my only balk. I have to take the lid off and squeeze it. I have extremely dry skin and while this is very moisturizing lotion, it still wasn’t as moisturizing as I need. I mix it with an unscented body cream so I get both the relief of dry skin and the delicious scent.

Great but really hard to get out of the bottle
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This lotion is really hydrating and has a nice mild fragrance to it. It is incredibly thick and it seems like one bottle will last for a while. However, this is what creates the biggest downside of the product as well. It is nearly impossible to get lotion out of the bottle. I've yet to be able to do so with one hand, meaning that I have to squeeze the bottle with two hands and hope that it doesn't go everywhere (it usually doesn't since it's so thick l).

Great lotion!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really enjoyed the conditioner I received from this brand so I was hoping that the body lotion wouldn't disappoint either. It didn't! I typically moisturize everyday as I get out of the shower. Most of the products I use are for dry skin and I was skeptical as to how this lotion would compare. It didn't disappoint! It went on smooth and absorbed really well. My skin stayed hydrated all day with a nice light scent. I highly recommend giving it a try!

Sort of a catch 22 for me, my legs are super dry, but I hate the feeling of thick lotion. This didn’t sink into the skin, but it did moisturize my legs. To me the smell is reminiscent of colloidal oatmeal, so I enjoyed that.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] At first I was a little confused I thought this was supposed to be like a hair lotion, keeping the theme of the box. But it’s body lotion. My review of this is that it is super thick, sticky and takes a bit of effort to spread evenly. The smell is horrible, smells like play-doh to me and enough to smell that all day is enough to give me a migraine. No doubt that it made my leg feel soft but it was also making my legs stick together. I probably won’t continue to use this.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I like this lotion, feels nice on the skin and keeps my skin moisturized for a long time. Has a nice coconut scent that is very pleasant and not overpowering. The only thing wrong with this is the packaging. The lotion is too thick for the bottle, making it extremely hard to get any product out.
