Do not waste your money.
Absolutely terrible. I have been using these beans for more than 5 years now with no issue, and since July, all of a sudden the beans taste and look like kidney beans and seem to be regular refried beans, NOT black beans. I’ve contacted Old El Paso and they said it’s just a difference in color, that black beans can be lighter. There is NO way that they are black beans.

New recipe? Pale and Disgusting
These used to be great. Every can that I’ve opened with at has an expiration date of 2027 is different than it used to be. New recipe? This new version doesn’t even look like it’s made with black beans. These are now pale and taste disgusting.

Refried Black Bean changes are not an improvement.
For years I was able to purchase the refried black beans for my son because of his nightshade allergies. I didn't realize that the recipe had changed as there was no indication on the label such as "New and improved" to warn of the changes. When I opened the can, it look very pale and was very thick and stiff. Definitely not the dark, delicious, creamy consistency that I was used to cooking with, and the taste wasn't quite right. Definitely not an improvement.

Not Black Beans at all
These are not black beans, we have purchased 4 cans in the past few months and all are regular refried pinto beans labeled as refried black beans. We have been buying these for years and we know the difference. Guess we are not buying them anymore.

No longer black beans
I am a vegetarian and these used to be my go-to for a canned bean product. I absolutely will not purchase these any longer. I bought several cans, even from different stores at different times to see if it was just a batch problem, but they no longer are black beans and the consistency is very thick and almost crumbly (used to be smooth). Very disappointing.

They are not refried black beans, I was very upset. I think the company mislabeled the ones that's at Target. Got the exact can from another store and those were definitely the black bean. I no longer buy them from Target

Wrong beans in can
They’re using pinto beans and labeling them as black beans thinking nobody will notice. Do not purchase if you want black beans.

Not Black Beans Anymore
They're no longer black beans. They're the regular flavor pinto beans, just relabeled. El Paso tried to argue with people about it too, as if pinto and black beans don't have completely different appearances and textures.

Please Bring Back the Black Bean Refried Beans!!
Please bring back the black bean refried beans. We love them. I have buying these for years and the last couple of cans are not black beans. While the traditional refried beans are good, they are not as good as the black bean refried beans. If you are no longer going to have black bean, please change the label or tell us that there was an error on the assembly line. Thanks

Black bean refried beans are pinto
The black beans refried beans are not black beans anymore! It's just the pinto in the black bean can. The last 6 cans I opened, only one was actuality the black beans refried beans. The rest were actually the regular pinto variety. I can see the pinto brand in it. Bring back the black beans

Bring back actual black beans.
No longer using black beans, despite what they say about it just being an off color. Flavor is not the same either, assuming due to different bean and not a change in recipe.

Disgusted!
Glad to see in not alone... like everyone else here, I thought the wrong product was in this can of black beans. NOT black beans at all. Whatever these are, the taste is awful... like a non-fat version, but swimming in oil. Thinking it was a one-off mistake, I bought several more cans to stock up during a sale. Will be throwing them all away and never buying this brand again... these are inedible.
