Book Synopsis

I only wanted to protect you...

Luke Garrison is a hometown hero, a member of the National Guard ready to deploy again. He's strong, sexy, broody. The last thing he's looking for is a woman to ruin his solitude. When the wildly beautiful Harper stumbles into his life, though, he realizes that she's the perfect decoy. A fake girlfriend to keep his family off his back until he's deployed.

So what if kissing her sends his mind to wicked places? He can control himself. Can't he?

Harper was on her way to starting a new life... again. But something about Luke makes her want to settle down in this small town and make his house a home. When she's in his arms, she finally knows what it's like to feel safe. Protected.

One night of sharing a bed turns into something much, much more... and soon Luke can't keep his mind off Harper's wide gray eyes or his hands off her luscious curves. He never thought he'd feel this way about a woman again. But he knows that he can't tell her the truth about his dark past. And she can't reveal what she's running from.

At least this isn't a real relationship. It's only for a month. It's only pretend. Until it isn't...

5/5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Another amazing story from Lucy!!!! So easy to read, funny with a hint of „give me a tissue, I’ll cry”, spicy and good for book slump. My went away so so fast. 😁 Luke and Harper are both great characters. Harper, a total sunshine with her own chaos and even bigger heart. Luke, a little grumpy with some dark clouds above his head but available for anyone who needs his help and in need for someone to break his walls. His and Harper’s chemistry was “born” very quickly and no matter if they had a good or bad time - they knew it and everyone around them was aware of it too, especially when Luke got territorial….and he did. 😁 “𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠-𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞?” “𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐞𝐭 𝐦𝐞? 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠-𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦? 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐛 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭.” “𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧, 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐞.” This little town was so charming. I mean….I need the inside of the whole karaoke plan haha

OMG, this was probably the BEST book I've read of Lucy Score!!! Loved it!! I was all over with my emotions - strong when Harper was strong, sad when Harper was sad. I'm already looking for the next book of the series to read!! If you get a chance to read Lucy Score you need to as you will fall in love with her and her characters / storis!! I highly recommend her books, as a matter of fact - I've never written a book review before, so this book must be read!!

4.75 i would first like to start off by saying i love lucy scores book so when reading this i knew i loved her writing and that still applies to this book but the reason it wasn’t a 5 stars just because it didn’t give me that 5 star feeling. ( i’m also just picky with my 5 star ratings) with that being said i read this book in one day and ATE IT UPPP. this book gave me butterflies, made me squeal, and cry. at times the book did frustrate me with luke’s closed offnis. but overall this book was fast paced and easy to read. lucy score never misses 😌

I need to start by saying this is the first book I’ve read by Lucy Score, and I went into reading this knowing of the author but not being super familiar with her writing style. “Pretend You’re Mine” is a romantic fiction novel that is much heavier on the romance than it is on substance. While the overall story was entertaining, this book was not for me. Harper Wilde is a woman who gets into a lot of trouble. While running from a cheating boyfriend, she stops in Benevolence long enough to stop an abuser and get beaten up herself. She’s helped by Luke Garrison, a military man who has a history of his own that he’d rather not talk about. Both of them decide to help each other; for Harper, she gets a job and a place to stay for a month before Luke deploys for his next assignment, and Luke uses Harper as a fake girlfriend to get his family off his back. What they don’t expect, however, is how cozy things get during their arrangement. To be fair, I think my issue with this book has more to do with not vibing with the style than the actual story. I enjoyed the interactions that each character had with family and friends, especially the relationship that Harper and Aldo form. I didn’t expect the twist at the end regarding Harper’s history but it definitely had me reading to find out what happens. I thought the ending was adorable. I didn’t like the possessive tones that Luke used about Harper in many parts of the book. I didn’t like how sx was used to show connection instead of ANYTHING else…there’s very little substance between Luke and Harper besides their physical attraction. There were parts of these scenes that got a little rough that I also didn’t think was necessary. Since I am not the target reader for this author, I wanted to remain as neutral as possible with the score to be fair, hence the 3 star read. Those who normally like Lucy Score will probably enjoy this book, but it’s not for every romantic fiction reader. **Thank you so much to Bloom Books and NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book**
