Edith was a 1925 felt doll from Dare's childhood, which Dare repainted and refashioned into the iconic character of "Edith The Lonely Doll." In the mid-1950s Dare began photographing Edith with two stuffed bears-Mr. Bear and Little Bear-and The Lonely Doll book series was launched.
