As you know, Ashley Furniture Industries only produces goods for residential use. As the load that our products can bear is dependent on so many independent variables (static load, force, movement, placement of the weight, and design, to name a few) there is no accurate way for us to state the maximum weight-bearing capacity

A: Is "the industry" remiss? ...or is it just some manufactueres or retailers? It seems that someone should be ashamed..and "someone" should act. Either "They" should address this information gap in some consistent way voluntarily or maybe the government should get it fixed. "Customers" have a legitimate need to know this...even with appropriate legal disclaimers if that's what's needed to satisfy the legal department. Car manufacturtres supply MPG and many other statistics. Insurance companies supply crash statistics. Tire manufacturers supply performance measurements. Building materials and components like A/C units, light bulbs, flooring, insulation, fishing line, wiring...ad infinitum. Measuring the weight-bearing capacity of chairs seems no more difficult than most things...it actually seems easier. Chair weight capacity matters. It should be noted also that many other sellers provide some weight-bearing information. Can any of these be trusted? The original "answer" basically says the maker and the seller have no idea or duty to measure this, and the buyer totally accepts the risk and responsibility. It also implies that some manufacturers and sellers don't test chairs very well.
