Heating pad does not work
I just bought this. The heating pad doesn’t work..
1 reply from K&H Consumer Care Team team - 3 months ago
Thank you for your review. We’re sorry to hear the heating pad doesn’t seem to be working as expected. K&H outdoor heated beds and pads are designed to warm to your pet’s natural body temperature of about 102°F only when your pet is lying on the pad. When not in use, the heat dissipates into the air, so the surface may feel cool depending on the ambient temperature. A quick way to test the pad is to place a large pillow on top for about 20 minutes, then reach underneath— it should feel warm, not hot. Please be sure not to use an extension cord during this test, and only use the provided fleece cover at all other times. If the pad still doesn’t warm during the pillow test, we’d be happy to help troubleshoot or replace it if needed. Please reach out to our Customer Care team 877-738-5188 so we can make this right.

Is the heating pad warm enough on it's own?
I have my cat in the garage since she refuses to come inside. She also refuses to go into the K & H house, but she loves using the pad in a chair. She likes a blanket over her, but the blanket always ends up underneath her somehow. I worry that she is not warm enough and also am concerned that the pad will malfunction from leaving a blanket on top of it. How can I tell if she is warm enough? It's 34 degrees outside tonight.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re glad to hear your cat is enjoying the heated pad, even if she prefers her own setup. Ferals often take time to feel comfortable with enclosed spaces like a heated house, so it’s completely normal that she avoids it. Moving the pad to a spot where she feels safer was a great call and clearly helped her find the warmth. To check that she’s staying warm, feel the pad after she’s been lying on it — it should be comfortably warm. Her behavior is also a good indicator; if she chooses to stay on the pad and relax, she’s likely comfortable. Thank you again for the review and for giving her a warm, safe place to rest.

Love these!
Buying our third one - our cats love them! This one is replacing one I have had a long time - maybe 5-6 yrs? - and it has been truly outdoor (not under cover) the whole time. (I have one cat who refuses anything under cover). We do prefer to fold the entire front piece under the house for a larger front opening. Easier access for cleaning also.

Thank you for being such a long‑time customer and for sharing your experience! We’re glad to hear your outdoor house has held up well over the years. Folding the front piece under for a larger opening is a great tip — it makes cleaning easier and gives pets more flexibility, especially those who prefer open access. We appreciate your feedback and are happy our products continue to support your cat’s comfort outdoors.

Great quality
I bought one of the large, outdoor heated cat houses for a feral cat. He enjoyed it for a few years then, last year, he crawled inside to die after getting into poison somewhere else. We were heartbroken.. now, the only problem is NOT being able to replace the cover for the heating pad. It was too soiled to clean. The replacement part shows ‘sold out’ every time I check. It’s not useable without the proper cover.. I suggest you buy a smaller one in case you have to replace the entire house, which is what I’m looking at. No response to my question.

One Complaint
This heated house is great. My only complaint is that only about half of the floor is heated. If a cat is using this house it means it's cold outside, and they want to be warm. It would be better if the heating pad covered the whole thing. The outdoor cat that I got it for doesn't use it in the warm weather, he prefers to sleep out in the open.

Thank you for your review and for choosing our heated house for your outdoor cat. We’re so glad to hear it’s been a great addition, but we understand your concern about the heating pad covering only half of the floor. The design is intended to provide warmth where it’s most needed, but we completely understand how a larger heated area would be beneficial, especially on those cold nights. Your feedback is really valuable, and we will certainly pass it along to our design team for future improvements. In the meantime, we recommend adding a blanket or cushion to the unheated side to help keep your cat comfortable. We’re also glad to hear your outdoor cat is enjoying the open air when it’s warmer! If you ever need any additional support or have further questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you again for your feedback and for giving your cat a cozy spot to call home!

Overrated
My cat refuses to use it, currently just wasting electricity.

We're so sorry to hear that your cat will not use the product. Try taking the plastic doors off the house, then place a few cat treats or dry cat food inside the house. This can sometimes help your cat get more comfortable with the new house. If that does not work and you purchased the product on the K&H website, please contact our customer service department to see if you are eligible for a full refund.

Fantastic Products
These outdoor, heated homes are so critical for felines (and others) who are in the cold. We have purchased a number of these, and we applaud K&H for these necessary and compassionate products.

Glad we got one
In addition to our 4 cats who use the cat door on the side of the house, we have a feral one. He’s not very sociable, but he likes to come in to eat and rest. He hasn’t figured out how to use the cat door yet, so we bought one of these houses for him. We weren’t sure if he’d discovered it (it took over a week) 1986 and today, my husband took this pic of him. We are so glad we got this house for him, and he’s using it, because we get very cold temperatures, ice, and snow. It was easy to put together, and yes, it doesn’t feel as warm as we think it should, but it’s perfect for them. We highly recommend it!!

We appreciate your recommendation and are so glad the house is working out for all your furry family members!

My feral barn cat loves this heated cabin!
My feral barn cat, Ruth, loves her new heated log cabin! My one criticizm is that I do not think this kitty house would hold up if left outside in the elements. Mine is in my goat barn, so it should be good. Ruth loves to snuggle and she enjoys using the front door to go in her house and the handy back door to exit.
1 reply from K&H Consumer Care Team team - 1 year ago
Thank you for your feedback! We're thrilled to hear that Ruth loves her new heated log cabin and enjoys using both the front and back doors. We understand your concern about durability in the elements, and we want to reassure you that this is a popular choice for outdoor use with feral cats. We receive many positive reviews about how well it holds up in various weather conditions. With its corrugated wall panels, heavy-duty fabric, and weather-resistant cover, it’s designed to provide reliable warmth and protection for outdoor cats. We're so happy to know Ruth is enjoying her cozy new home in the barn!

Great heated shelter for our ferals
We've had the product for only a few weeks, so I can't speak to its longevity, but other K&H products have lasted well. Setup was easy, especially as the instructions were clear. Having the 2 doors simplified the process because I could reach inside to make sure that the parts were properly connected via the hook & loop fastenings. Our feral cat didn't hesitate at all to start using it! We've had a little snow, and it was simple to brush it off. The shelter is on a roofed porch and I set up straw bales so that it's well protected from wind to the north and east (the shelter's door faces the house on the west, which is a fine windbreak, and I can check on the cat from inside the house). I set up the shelter on a 2-inch thick piece of Styrofoam for insulation from cold air coming between the boards on the porch. We're experiencing a cold snap at the moment, so I covered the roof and the most unprotected side with an insulated pad (one side with a door doesn't have the additional covering). The feral cat is clearly very happy with this warm shelter. With luck, the cat will become more accustomed to us over the next few months, so that it can be handled (and taken to the vet to be neutered and vaccinated) and then sufficiently socialized for adoption or relocation to a farm with a colony of barn cats.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed review! It’s wonderful to hear that the setup was easy and that your feral cat is already making good use of the shelter. It sounds like you’ve gone above and beyond to create the perfect cozy, protected space for them—what a great setup! We’re so glad the shelter is keeping the cat warm during this cold snap. We’re rooting for you and the cat on this journey, and we hope that with time, the little one becomes more socialized and ready for their next adventure. Thanks for trusting us to help provide a safe and warm haven for the kitty!

Heated house hit with the feral
I have 3 feral cats that live in my carport. I made a couple tote in tote with straw beds but I live in Montana so decided to get this too. Didn't take them long to start using it!

That’s so wonderful to hear! Your feral cats are lucky to have such a caring person looking out for them, especially in those cold Montana winters. We’re glad they’re using it and staying warm! Thanks for sharing!

These houses are a great value. And they are washable. I covered mine on the outside with a quilted packing blanket that movers use for extra protection . The heated cushion inside saves cats during the winter. Way to put together and pack away for the summer. A good value for the prices. The only think I would like to see is ticker insulation on the roof and sides.

Thank you for your thoughtful review! We're so glad to hear that the houses are working well for you and that the heated cushion is keeping your cats warm during the winter. We love your creative idea of using a quilted packing blanket for extra protection! We appreciate your suggestion about thicker insulation for the roof and sides, and we’ll definitely take it into consideration for future designs. Thanks again for your feedback and for choosing our product!

Easy to assemble
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this from Influenster for my honest opinion. This cat house is so easy to put together. All the pieces have strong Velcro on them and they stick together easily. They also hold together well too. It comes with a removable heat pad, which keeps the space pretty warm. My cats are inside cats but love to be inside it and warm. It has removable door flaps on each end. It is a perfect, cozy spot for any cat.

Marketing and instructions contradict themselves
Just received this and after reading the instructions am disappointed. This is marketed as an outdoor shelter but the included instructions say to keep out of direct rain and snow. So this is really not intended for outdoors, it must be used in a sheltered area. Not as marketed on packaging or on website. I wanted to provide shelter for a feral cat without fear of electrocuting one.
1 reply from K&H Customer Service team - 1 year ago
Thank you for your feedback, Kerry, and we apologize for any confusion. The instructions you mentioned are specifically for the heated pad included with the house. They indicate that the pad should only be used in a sheltered area. The house itself serves as the shelter referenced in the heated pad instructions.

Simple little cat house
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This outdoor heated kitty house is perfect for the strays around my neighborhood. Whichever one is using it for the night is kept warm, dry, and comfortable. The size is great and there isn't much assembly required. I especially like the 2 door design. I think this product will last for years.

Heated cat house
I’ve had it plugged in and I don’t think it’s heating. I can’t tell, it seems like body heat from my kitty
1 reply from K&H Customer Service team - 1 year ago
Thank you for your review Katy! K&H heated products are designed to warm to your pet's normal body temperature for safety. If you want to test the heated pad inside this house to ensure it is working, simply place a pillow on top for about 20 minutes. Then feel under the pillow, it should be warm, not hot. If you need further assistance please feel free to reach out to us!
