Disappointed

This is a nice mantel. However, when trying to stain the wood, all sides must not be maple because the bottom side stained like poplar or some other species. I do a fair amount of woodworking, and had planned to finish this for our living room. Unfortunately, it’s now useless and I’m back to the drawing board.
