About this item

Highlights

  • Big Fat Beefy Tone: The dual coil humbucking pickup delivers a very dynamic and fat sound, while reducing or "bucking" unwanted noise and hum.
  • Easy To Play: Indio Cali Classic Guitars are perfect for beginners or for players that need a reliable practice or backup axe. They feature easy to play, "fast" satin necks and quiet, full sounding pickups.
  • Make It Your Own: Make no bones about it, this guitar is gig ready right out of the box! But if you are the type of player that is into customizing your instrument, it is super easy to upgrade the electronics or other hardware to make this Indio guitar your own. It is a great way to experiment with tone and aftermarket parts, without the risk of damaging or destroying your primary instrument.
  • Humbucking pickups feature a reverse polarity dual‑coil design, which naturally removes those unwanted noises and allows thick and robust overtones to truly ring out!
  • The California Classic hot‑rodded and stage ready for performance!

Description

The Monoprice Indio California Classic Electric Guitar has proved itself to be a stage ready performer at a price that is borderline ridiculous. And now in true California fashion, we added some extra muscle to the series. The Indio Cali Classic HSS Electric Guitar builds on the foundation of the original Cali Classic, with a hot rodded humbucking pickup in the bridge position for that essential rock 'n' roll punch. Take your tone back to the glory days of rock without stressing over 60 cycle hum. Often times, when cranking your amp to 11 with single coil pickups, typically found on this style of guitar, the sound can get a bit noisy. Of course, this is true of our Cali Classic models as well as big brand name guitars costing thousands of dollars. After all, single coil pickups can deliver very desirable vintage tones. However, humbucking pickups feature a reverse polarity dual coil design, which naturally removes those unwanted noises and allows thick and robust overtones to truly ring out!

Nice Strat so far..

First the cons..... I think I recieved a " return" guitar as there was no neck wrap or any protectors on the switch or even the pick guard as so many videos have shown them being delivered . This had me a little skeptical . Upon inspection , it seems to be well set up other than the pick ups being totally out of alignment. They were all loose and WAY out of adjustment and had to be re adjusted. The tuners are the weak link as far as I can see and I,ll replace them with some nice locking tuners. Also , the strings should be replaced with a better set as soon as you get it. Other than that , not too many cons so far. Pros.... this really is a well built guitar! For the price its hard to beat. The pick ups are decent , the neck and body are very well made and the finish is really nice! I bought this strat to use as a practice guitar while traveling and its much better than expected. Once the tuners are replaced , it may be much more than just my practice guitar and may be an everyday guitar for me! Well done Monoprice!

Really clean, set up well and sounds very good. The strings it came with sound good too. I will restring it with D'Addario XL 42-9 at some point they are fine for now. This is my 3rd Indio Guitar as well and all are very well made Guitars. Sound Great and Play well right out of the Box. the other two Guitars did need string changes right off the bat.

Great neck and body

Neck and frets were. Body seems great as well (basswood is a great wood). Heavy poly though. No shielding inside the cavity (not even conductive paint). Its a $100 guitar. The tuners are the WORST I ever touched. The bridge is likewise the worst I have ever seen. Pickups are close to the worst - pots dime sized. Nut is plastic. Again, this is a $100 guitar (I paid $80 actually). For a great neck and body, this was a bargain. I have replaced EVERYTHING on this guitar other than the neck and body. I am happy nonetheless ...

Beware discounted items

After buying a couple discounted models of strat and tele, both received were obviously previous returns with many flaws. Bad body seams, bad finishes, scratches, bent toggle, ill fitting neck to neck pocket, sharp fret ends ...Both were returned by me to probably be resold yet again. So be advised that when buying the discounted ones. Chances are pretty high that you'll get a previous return. They should at least mention that in the description. Either that or the quality of new ones has gone down quite a bit in the past year. They were not what they used to be that's for sure...Good luck.

Lot of Guitar

This was purchased as a gift. Came with relatively good playable setup, only required 0000 steel wool back of neck due to slightly rough finish patches. Otherwise it was shocking how much guitar this was for the money- much better than the Squier I remember when started out 30 years ago. Thank you Monoprice!

Had to return it immediately

Fret buzz caused by low nut resulting in the first fret to have less than 1/32 inch action. Possibly due to the nut grooves being filed too low, but it looks like it might be too low even with more height in the nut. Also the provided allen key doesn't fit into the truss rod because the hole in the wood isn't straight, so you can't make the allen key straight to insert it. They said I should return it for a refund so I agreed to do so. Besides the issues, it looks great, the bag is padded with almost an inch of foam, but I wouldn't want something falling on top of it in the bag because it wont protect it. I plugged it in and tuned it and it sounded good except for the buzz on open low strings due to the above mentioned issue.

This guitar is amazing for the price. I am an experienced guitar player of 45 years, and maybe I just got lucky but the playability, feel and tone of this guitar is off the charts for the price. I can't figure out how Monoprice can make guitars of this quality at this price. Forget about this being a beginners guitar which is by far the best one by far at this price. It can satisfy the experienced musician too.
