This is the lightest piece of walnut I’ve ever seen, so I don’t think they should be calling it black walnut. I’ve attached a photo of it next to a black walnut butcher block so you can see the difference in color. Also, the craftsmanship isn’t the best. The lip is a thick at one end and thin at the other. Also, the copper end is attached slightly crooked.Overall, I’m pretty disappointed.

I have purchased and been impressed with several Barebones products which is why I was excited to try out their cooking equipment. The spatula feels great in the hand and the metal accent is beautiful. My only gripe with the product is it can not withstand normal cooking and needs to be treated gently or it will very quickly discolor and dent. After the first cooking session with it I already had discoloration marks where I tapped it against my pot to knock food from it. I own several wooden cooking items including cutting boards and several year old spoons and spatulas so I am familiar with how to care for them. While I love the feel of this spatula, needing to treat it gently and consistently oiling it after one or two uses will probably lead to it being more of a decoration than an actual workhorse (which many of my other barebones products are).
